I’ve been using the Safety 1st Flat Step Gates since 2023. I baught one gate first and tried downstairs and then baught another one for upstairs for my hyper active older child and now again for my second baby, and they have been absolutely reliable. It gave me real peace of mind during the crawling and toddler stages and has continued to do their job perfectly.The flat step design is one of the best features. It’s much safer to walk through than gates with raised bars, especially when carrying a baby or going up and down the stairs. The gates feel very sturdy once fitted and hasn’t loosened over time, even with daily use and toddlers pushing against it.I really appreciate that it’s pressure-fit, so no drilling was needed. I had to buy extention for both gates as our stairs are bit wider, and it was easy to find the extentions for these gates too.Installation was straightforward, and the locking mechanism is secure but still easy for adults to open one-handed. The gate has held up very well over the years and still looks and works like new.

We already had a gate at the bottom of the stairs but needed one at the top with a flat bar across the bottom to avoid tripping, as our little one has started to crawl. The gate at the bottom is a Munchkin Lindam one, and I initially looked at buying their version for the top of the stairs (with flat bar) but after reading numerous reviews about how difficult it was to install and how the wall cups were different, I decided to go for this one and we wanted to screw the cups on to the wall, rather than using sticky pads as it's more secure and the pads can take paint and plaster off when removed.We got a "used" one from Amazon as it was about £15 cheaper (minus the extender), it initially said the box had been damaged/opened but there were clear signs of use although these were mostly only minor cosmetic like a few scuffs. The cable tie to stop the gate flapping about when you install it had also been removed so I had to use duct tape to secure it while we were putting it up. The cups came with the adhesive pads attached where somebody had obviously stuck them on before sending it back. This wasn't a problem for us as we wanted to screw it on anyway and the pads came off easily but all of this is probably worth noting if you see a cheaper one on Amazon which says only the box has been damaged...It was relatively easy to install although the bottom cups were a bit trickier to screw in because of our skirting board and the configuration at the top of our stairs (one side has square skirting that's even all the way around and the other side is tapered), that also meant that we couldn't get the bar 100% straight at the bottom as it would come over the top step but it is very secure. I don't know why manufacturers don't take the size and shape of skirting boards into account when they produce these gates, although that's possibly because they are not solely made for the UK market. Easy to adjust once up and I like the system with the washers and gaskets which are attached to the top and make it easy to adjust to fit in the wall cups.The gate is really sturdy now it's up and the locking mechanism seems very secure. I like the feature that shows a red/green indicator on the lock to show that it's properly in position or not. I can lift and open/close with my right hand easily enough but little hands probably won't be able to open it, which is obviously a good thing!

Having recently fitted this gate to the bottom of our stairs, I would say it rates very highly. It's sturdy and easy enough to fit, assuming you don't rush the job. I had to fit the optional 7cm extension and that was fine, apart from a minor issue getting the inserts out so I could fit the extension. The online video is good for confirming you're doing things in the right order.The gate can be opened with one hand. It needs a slide-and-lift-up movement, and at first it will likely seem quite stiff. It does need a reasonably strong action, but that ensures children very probably won't manage it. We are in our 60s and my wife and I have no problem opening and locking the gate.I like the fact that the gate will stay open if placed at the full 90 deg - any less of an angle and it will self-close; very handy if you're coming up or down stairs - or through a doorway - carrying things. It shows thoughtful design. The gate will open both ways - a stopper low down on each side allows you to have the gate only open one way.I picked up on comments that the gate arrived and looked faulty for some. Seems the company responded to this. The gate itself, and side bar, are temporarily held vertically together with a cable tie, and there's an advisory warning label. If you follow the video and position the gate, tighten the fixings a little way, and only then cut the cable tie, you won't notice any issue (the side bar pulls up to the gate as you tighten the fixings).The thin bottom bar was a big reason I bought this model, because our previous one had a typically thick bar which I'd occasionally catch with my heal as I stepped down. This one is barely noticeable, even when I deliberately tried to step on it. But more importantly, if you fit yours at the top of the stairs, having a thin bottom bar should prevent any chance of tripping up and falling head long down the stairway!Well thought out and well made product.

OK so as is not completely uncommon I bought this to use more as a dog gate rather then a baby gate. However as the average American Cocker Spaniel is probably about as bright as the average toddler and equally adept at getting in to places they shouldn't.So to start out of the box, this gate is great for areas like doorways and top or bottom of the stairs between a wall and newel post. As indicated when unpacked and tape removed the gate does spread open at the top and it is the act of fitting in to the intended gap and tightening it up which closes the gap up at the top and ensures the locking closure is secure.The opening and closing mechanism is easy to use and secure when closed. To open, pull the top of the handle and towards the centre of the gate and lift up. To close, push the handle back down and the latch locks in place. The opening and closing of the gate is smooth and I think sufficiently wide to use easily.The flat step bottom is excellent and a great feature on this gate, it definitely minimises the trip hazard and so far I have had no mishaps despite it being used almost constantly.Now just to add, I did purchase a couple of extras. Firstly I bought one 14cm extension piece as I wanted to also use this across the width of a hallway, really easy to install on the gate, just pop out the the bits which screw against the wall on one side, pop in the extension and then pop bits which screw against the wall in to the extension (note you need to pop out the plastic sleeve which the side screws sit in and not just the screws themselves. No tools required.Secondly I ordered a set of safety gate wall nanny protectors, which have a flat rubber surface to go against the wall and a recess on the other side for the round wall screw bits to slot into.Really please and everythings works really well, also I have now used it in various places such as doorways without the extension piece, so very versatile and easy to switch between different sized gaps with or without the extension piece.

This product was perfect. Brought for top of stairs and I'm always paranoid about tripping, especially when carrying the little one.The low profile of the bottom rail on this gate wasn't the only selling point either.1. It's a press fit so no unsightly holes left in the wall when it comes time to remove it.2. The trip hazard is greatly reduced as it's such a low profile bottom rail3. Build quality is excellent4. Gate opens in both directs5. Child proof lock when closed6. Super easy installation7. The size is perfect, my stairs don't seem to be a normal width and most gate sizes are either too narrow or too wide. This one is the goldilocks one!!I recommend this product 10/10.

good quality, arrived well packaged and for the price it has a few features which make it stand out:it stays open past 90* angle, the locking mechanism also can be left in "open" position so if you do move it and it auto-closes it doesn't smack into the base, the almost flat level at the bottom also makes it suitable for top/bottom of the stairsit also comes with all acxessories to quickly presssure mount and also wall plugs if you do wall-mount

We bought a baby gate to keep our crazy puppy in the kitchen but didn't realise there were 'stay open' ones available (it's 30 odd years since my kids were little so I'm not quite up to speed with current baby gear!). Our dog is now 3 1/2 and much calmer so we don't need the gate quite so much so it's mainly kept open but still there if needed so we replaced the old one with this stay open one. It's brilliant! The stepover bar at the bottom is much better than our old one and the handle is easy to manage. Really happy with my purchase. Highly recommended!

Très bien. Nous l’avons en haut et en bas de notre escalier. Le système est difficile à prendre en main pour les enfants et il faut un petit temps d’adaptation pour l’adulte, mais une fois que c’est pris en main, c’est automatique.2 ans que c’est installé à la maison, n’a pas bougé, solide. On a dû en démonter un pour enlever la rambarde à 2-3 reprises, la remise en place est toujours solide.

Wurde als "Stopper" für zwei Huskies gekauft, damit die nicht gleich an die Haustüre rennen können und somit an die Türe im Flur angebracht. Montage einfach und schnell - keine 5 Minuten benötigt. Dieses Gitter ist sehr stabil und hält die beiden Rabauken ohne Mühe zurück. Und die flache Schwelle ist auch eine echte Verbesserung gegenüber der alten Variante. Eine echte Empfehlung für Hundebesitzer (auch für Eltern mit Kindern ;) )

Muy contento con esta barrera de seguridad. La instalé sin necesidad de taladrar y el sistema de fijación a presión es firme y da mucha confianza. Se nota bien construida y estable.El diseño ultraplano es un punto a favor, ya que no molesta al pasar y reduce el riesgo de tropiezos. Genial también para el robot de limpieza. La apertura con una sola mano funciona muy bien, algo fundamental cuando vas cargado o con prisas. Además, el acabado es discreto y encaja bien en casa.En resumen, cumple perfectamente su función, es fácil de montar y ofrece muy buena seguridad. Una compra muy recomendable si tienes niños pequeños o mascotas.
