WIX Racing Filters Spin-On Lube Filter

If you hunt around on the INternet, you can find several sources of rating for oil filters. For a typical car, you can find filters from $2-3 each, up to more than $20 for the same filter. Why the huge price difference, and what's the difference? Well, it turns out that those little filter cans are more complex than you might think. For low-end filters, the filter paper will just have pieces of cardboard glued to the top and bottom of the filter paper. Mid-grade and higher filters will have composite or even metal end caps to prevent the filter media from straying and blocking things. Wix has what is often considered the best bypass valve design, which prevent the engine of starving from a lack of oil if the filter becomes blocked. While not always the 'best' in every review, Wix filters are ALWAYS well above average in quality, as well as available at a decent price. In other words, they are always a much better than average filter at a good price. For example, a big competitor, whose name is Fr*m, makes a range of filters, from cheap $3-4 ones, to some of the best at around $15-20 per filter. The problem now you have to remember which Fr*m filters are good, and which are poor. With Wix (or NAPA Gold series made by Wix for NAPA stores), you never have to worry about which grade to buy, as they only make the good ones. As I said, they always rate well in every test (like a B+ to A- grade) and are always at a fair (generally $5-8) price.

I hate my local tractor shop. They are rude and charge ridiculous prices for everything (eg. $100 for a mower carburetor that I bought here on Amazon for $26). Unfortunately they were also the only ones locally that I've found that carry the Kohler-brand filters for my tractor. I decided to turn to Amazon rather than give those jerks any more business. In doing so I learned a couple of things. First, Amazon carries the Kohler filters for less than the local shop does and they are Prime-eligible at the time of this review. Secondly, I can substitute this Wix filter for the Kohler-brand filter and it is even a few bucks less again. Wix makes great filters and Kohler recently changed the construction of theirs, now producing an inferior product. By going with Wix I get a better filter at a lower cost. What isn't to like about that? Oh yeah, the Wix filter was made in the USA too! In case anyone is looking for a filter for their tractor, I have a Simplicity Regent 15 lawn tractor (2002 or 2003 model I believe) with a Kohler Command 15 HP engine in it. I only ordered one filter because I wanted to make sure it fit properly since the genius that designed my tractor put the filter in a bad spot. It spun right on, so I am ordering another one to keep in stock for next spring.

It’s Wix so it’s a good filter

This amazon post product dimensions indicate: LxWxH 20.68 x 13.78 x 7.35 inches (This is WAY Off from what it is) I would hope anyone looking at those dimensions would realize the error. (a 20.6" Oil filter would be something you'd see on an Earth Mover or heavy machinery scenario ... not a passenger vehicle). As to WIX - Fantastic filters and great value for the $.

Fits both 2jz and 2uz-fe toyota engines. Was using 3330 botch. These seem to clean the oil longer. Oil looks more golden for longer than going dark. Also use wix engine air filters changed every 6000-8000 miles. Used with mobil1 extended performance synthetic. Changed every 3000-4000 miles between extended oil changes.

Wix are very good filers.
