No.It is NOT made from ground WHOLE seed. Kevala tahini is made from ground HULLED sesame seeds.Hulled sesame seeds are no longer whole, because they have had their hull removed. A hull, or husk, is the outer shell of a seed or grain. When hulls are removed, seeds and grains become milder in flavor, but they lose a portion of their nutritional profile. Therefore, hulled sesame seeds are milder in flavor, but unhulled sesame seeds are more nutritious - just like white bread compared to whole wheat bread.Tahini can be made from either hulled or unhulled sesame seeds, although it is typically made from hulled. The seeds are then toasted or roasted (or sometimes even soaked raw), before being ground into tahini. The bag of Kevala USDA organic black sesame seeds states "grown in USA". Assuming they use their own seeds to make tahini, then grown and made in USA.

Hello Ralph, yes Kevala removes the hulls of the sesame seeds in a mechanical way, which is considered superior to other techniques like using salt water, as this way it does not add sodium in the process to the tahini. Enjoy !

Does this plastic jar contain BPA??  it does not say it doesn't, PLUS  the glass version is almost twice the price. Thank you, stacey
