I grabbed this Spalding TF DNA Smart Basketball kind of on a whim, not totally sure what to expect, and honestly… it’s way better than I thought it’d be. First off, the ball itself is solid. It’s got that true Spalding feel — good grip, nice bounce, doesn’t feel like some techie gimmick stuffed into a cheap rubber shell. Honestly, you wouldn’t even know there is software in it. I’ve used it both indoors and on a good outdoor court, and it holds up just like any high-quality game ball. But where this thing really shines is the app. You pair the ball to your phone (super simple Bluetooth setup), and from there it opens up a whole world of training tools. The app tracks makes, misses, shot arcs, release angles — even footwork to some extent. I was skeptical about how accurate it would be, but after a few sessions, I could tell it was really dialing in on my patterns. It’s not just giving you random data either — it’s actionable. My 14 year old son loves this basketball. It was easy to connect and accurately counted his shots. He likes how it gives information about his form and timing too.

Feel of the ball, awesome! Connection the first time, Awesome! Ability to track shots, AWESOME! The arc, release, and make feed back AWESOME! However…. Ball moves a little funny on the dribble and on rebounds likely due to the sensor inside. One of the irritating things about this ball is how often it disconnects in the middle of a session. At random times and takes forever to reconnect to continue the session. Generally happens around 4 to 5 times per shot zone so about 20 times total per session. Then the other VERY annoying part, WHEN IT MISS READS A MAKE! Make misreads happen about 20 times per session as well. Majority of the time on a swish and sometimes on a roll around the rim then drop. Nothing like having the satisfaction of making a clean shot then hearing a diving board bounce in your ear and knowing your shot percentage is affected. Once or twice, not a big deal. 20!?!? That’s a huge percentage drop. I don’t know if I got a defective ball, but these annoyances sometimes have me questioning if I really want to use it or not. Again if it was once or twice I can over look that. But, around 20 for both issues? Sometimes it seems that it’s not worth the hassle. UPDATE! A rep reached out due to seeing this review and sent a new ball that doesn’t have the issues I expressed above. Customer service is top notch and quick. I’ve updated to a five star review because the ball works exactly as it’s supposed too. Thank you SiQ TF DNA team

I've been involved in basketball forever. I've tried everything. This ball is by far the best thing you can buy to improve shooting. The technology is amazing. Never in a million years did I think this ball would work/would be accurate. Not only is it over 99% accurate on makes vs. misses, it measures AND helps correct ball spin rate (backspin), shot arc (shooting higher), release time (getting the shot off quicker), swish percentage, shooting percentage. The app knows from how FAR YOU SHOOT IT. I'm telling you, it is unbelievably accurate. It knows if your shooting 12' away vs. 16' away. In all honesty, if I had this as a kid, I would have never left the gym. I was a gym rat without this ball. With it.... wow. It has national contests you compete against others around the country. It has challenges to help you with your shot (my kids love the challenges). I know how to teach to shoot the ball. I have 2 girls and they listen to me sometimes and get tired of me correcting. THEY LISTEN TO THE APP when using the ball. Both have become better shooters already, within 2 weeks of having this, as they listen to the app more than their dad. I could not be more impressed. Great purchase. Not only that, their customer service is top of the line. I was sent another ball due to a minor issue. As a customer, I could not be more satisfied with my purchase.

I highly recommend the Spalding DNA ball for young athletes. Parents can monitor their shooting progress, they get audible feedback while shooting and it gets them excited about practicing. If you are serious about helping your child become a better basketball player then, I recommend this ball.
