I have an older model Mercedes and I’m not sure if newer models connect to CarPlay automatically but this product allows for my iPhone to connect the moment I turn on my stereo. I am using this in a 2021 crosstrek, using the standard USB port (no need for the little usbc adapter, I am able to plug the unit directly into the car). It works well, setup was very easy, and it connects to my phone without fuss. My only nitpick is that using google maps through carplay is pretty slow. Rather than the map continuously keeping up with me, it seems to update my position every 2-4 seconds or so, with the occasional even longer lag. Not a huge deal, but frustrating when passing through difficult roadways or a section of road with multiple splits. When I use the car's wired carplay (without this device), I do not have that lagging issue.

So I have had this device for a couple of days and let me tell don’t walk but run and get you one. Setup took less than 3 minutes. I no longer have to remember to plug my phone into the cord to get apple car play to connect. Not losing connection if the there’s a shortage in my cord. It has two different port for different ports. That was very convenient. I have an older car so it doesn’t have Type C ports but with this device it wouldn’t haven’t been an issue. When I start my car it automatically connects and there is not any delay. There is a green check that lets me know it’s connected. The device is so small it fit right in the console and takes up minimum space. Simply the best device and if I could give more stars I would.
