Gardyn people - listen up!
Gardyn people - listen up. Tired of rockwool that breaks apart, gets gross, is messy? Meet your new best friend! Just soak these sponges for a bit, and they expand to precisely fit your Y cubes. Dropping seeds in is a breeze - no more having to poke holes or make them bigger. I've been using Aerogarden systems for years with these type of sponges and they are fabulous.

MOLD! Almost all seeds grew mold
Did NOT work! I did half my hydroponics system with these and the other half rockwool. All the rockwool have sprouted, but all of these the seeds either grew mold or the saplings never rooted. Worse product! Don't purchase for hydroponics

Good size for bigger seeds for good stronger roots
I grew butter squash in these cubes. Butter squash seeds are kind of big, so it fit perfectly in these cubes. Soak these in water first for like 1 hour or so, then put seeds in, and let it sit in net cup with water touching the base, not flooding the seeds, then cover it if the temperature is too low not suitable for starting seedling. Covering the the cubes with plastic or something to keep it warmer, the seed will germinate faster. These cubes are good size, so it's good for initial roots to start strong to keep the plant sitting stable in the cube, other small cube will probably tilt the plant. Watch out for the cost of these cubes, it could be pricy and not worth it, however if you see a good deal for large quantity or if need be for your valuable plant then it's fine. Because you can use regular potting mix to start seedling then transplant it directly into a net cup without these cubes but you will have weaker plant not standing up or will tilt, with these cubes it will stay up.
