I purchased this dongle mainly as a backup internet option for my work and occasional travel, since broadband isn’t always reliable. Setup was straightforward — just insert the SIM and it starts working, no complicated configuration needed. Multiple devices can connect at once, which helped when I needed to use my laptop and phone together. Build quality feels average but acceptable for the price. There’s no detailed battery or signal display, you can see the signal as well as battery level through the indicators, but that hasn’t been a major issue for me. Overall, it serves my purpose well as a simple and reliable 4G hotspot.

DNS Error on Laptops - Works on Mobile, but Unusable for PCs ​I bought this Amazon Basics Wi-Fi dongle hoping for a simple, reliable solution. The device itself is not entirely defective; it works perfectly fine when connected to my mobile phone (Android/iOS), providing stable internet access as expected. ​However, the experience on laptops/PCs has been consistently problematic. The dongle connects successfully to the laptop network, but no internet traffic flows. The specific error message shown across all tests is consistently "DNS Server is not assigned." ​I attempted several troubleshooting steps, including manually changing my laptop's IP and DNS network settings, but the issue persisted. Crucially, I tested this dongle on five different Windows laptops, and the exact same DNS assignment failure occurred on every single one. This confirms the issue is not with my personal machine but a compatibility or driver problem with the dongle itself when used with standard computers. ​I have replacement done for this item. the new unit exhibits the identical DNS error, hence requesting a full refund. Please be cautious if you plan to use this solely with a PC or laptop..

Surprisingly reliable for daily internet use. Setup was effortless—just plug it in and you're online. Speeds are consistent for browsing, video calls, and emails. Compact and lightweight, easy to carry while traveling. Definitely worth the price.

I gave this 3 months to review now later... Worth every penny, saved me from my internet problems esp living in a grnd floor flat which has dark network spots. This little pebble works wonders...4g speeds between 11-13 mbps and uploads 3-6mbps. Works fine with my smart lg tv and mobile at one time.... Battery does not last long but so does not one else's...I always carry an multi battery charger.... Close your eyes and go for it (Make sure you understand that it does not provide 5G services but works with the sim)

I brought this for my parents who live in India, on my recent trip in Aug 2025. This was replacing a six year old JIO hotspot, which had started to loose its battery capacity due to aging. At first, this hotspot worked very well with battery backup of upto 10 hours. I had set the charging to 2 hours every 12 hour window, to prolong the battery life(there is no over charge protection in this hotspot) However within a month, the hotspot started to die when it was not in charging mode. On remote debugging, I found that the battery must have died. I tried reaching out to the customer support which lead to the manufacturer. They asked me about the proof of purchase and video recording of the problem with their amazon basics logo visible. I had to find someone to get there to do this for me. When I sent, they kept asking for video again & again. I really got fed-up. Then they gave me a tollfree number, which I was not able to call from outside India. Somehow they think I am going to cheat them on a sub $30 device. Amazon customer care is another joke in India. I was forwarded to 8 different agents before the entire session closed off. Extremely poor experience. They also removed my previous review of this item which is not acceptable. Overall, I would avoid buying this again based on how unprofessional the after sales is. Find a replacement from the mobile service provider as it is very useful for services(Jio customer support had replaced previous battery under warranty without a question) I will avoid this seller & device.

Observations after 15 days with Jio sim Pros: - Good signal strength (around 15 meter) - Support any sim - Up to 3 to 3.5 hours of battery backup - Configuration steps given in manual Cons: - Cable length is too short - Cable quality is too poor and if I use wired connectivity with this device then internet disconnects automatically after a period of time (20-30 mins). I have to eject and reinsert cable in USB port. This is the biggest drawback. This issue is not observed for wifi connection. - In user manual it is mentioned to not to place this device near any other wireless device - Its price is much higher than its features and cable quality. I was looking for battery based wireless portable device so I had to make this decision.

Compré este adaptador para jugar smash online en Nintendo Switch. Ojo que si planeas usarlo para lo mismo, necesitas la version usb 3.0 (o es 3.1? no estoy seguro). Al momento de la compra, seleccioné el modelo "Talla 0". El usb 2.0 es mas barato, pero leyendo otros reviews, parece que esa version no sirve con el Switch. En cuando a la unidad, se ve siente de buena calidad. El cable esta algo corto. Cable de red se vende por separado. Para configurarlo con el Switch, solo conecta la unidad al dock del switch, y el cable de red a la unidad. Es todo, el switch se conecta usando la red alámbrica por defecto. Si quieres confirmar, en el dashboard, le das en configuración > red. Puedes ver el estado actual y probar la conexión. Ya en el Smash, si tengo uno que otra pelea con lag, pero no tan seguido. Si recomendaría invertir en el adaptador.

Seems to be well made, plug and play function, no drivers needed, seems to work well and speedily on my home PC to Router wired connection, as the LAN port of PC has gone faulty, cheaper than buying an internal PCI card or having PC repaired, and apart from it taking up a Rear PC USB port I'm very happy with the performance, would recommend it to replace or add an extra LAN connection to an older PC.
