desertcart.com: The Geography Book: Activities for Exploring, Mapping, and Enjoying Your World: 9780471412366: Arnold, Caroline: Books Review: Great for Like Minded Kids - I bought this as a Christmas present for a map-loving church student of mine. I guess that maybe I didn't pay close enough attention to the style of the book when I ordered it, because when it arrived, I was dismayed to find that it wasn't exclusive to map reading and functioned more as a text book from school. Among topics it covers are orienteering and reading weather and oceanography maps. However, my intended recipiant was more than thrilled to receive the book. He said that he's studying the same stuff at school and he loves it. He could hardly put it down in order to go through the church service. It was engaging and insightful, he said, and that's saying a lot coming from a kid who's ADD and hates to read. I recommend this product. Review: Great starter workbook - As a life-long learner, when I want to learn a new subject I begin with children's books because they assume no prior knowledge of the subject. Many children's books also give one activities to express the concepts. This book met my expectations. I will enjoy working my way through the activities as a base for this new subject of study.

Excellent content, low quality print
I had borrowed this book from the library and loved the content. It is perfect for doing at home or at school with children, and the materials needed are for the most part easily accessible. The print quality of this copy is really bad, though, and even hard to read in some pages.

Wonderful learning tool
I am rusty on my geography and this has been perfect. I relax when watching TV and color. I use artist grade pencils (set of 72) and enjoy the freedom to play with color and refresh my knowledge. One of my friends was so fascinated that she hinted wanting that as her Christmas gift. She was super pleased.

Geography
This book was selected for a resource for my 6th grade class. It has great information for teaching or learning about the various components of geography. Examples: Map skills, maps, and landforms.

I like the book -- the activities are fun and engaging, covering everything from basic mapping topics like the compass rose and longitude and latitude to time zones and volcanoes and oceans. My only complaint is that, oddly, it seem that it is made up of photocopied pages that have been nicely bound into a book. Could they really not have used a proper printer for the book? It seriously looks like it was done on the library photocopier.
