oh my god. What a rum. + it comes in the box!
Got 3 of these on discount as £30+ is too much for a bottle of rum for me, been wanting to try it for awhile being a rum fan. First impression was that I loved that it came in the box, great decor for a home bar which I have. On opening there is only one comment. The smell. Beautiful barrel smell followed by an almost fruitiness finishing with the rum. The first bottle I had was that potent it actually filled the room full of the smell on initial opening. The drinking experience is great too. Real colour, not over caramel like other rums, and on top of that the taste is flat out great, drank neat I prefer it to many whiskys, and whilst I definitely consider it a sin, one rather tipsy night I may have mixed it with Pepsi Max (real keto hours), and even that was beautiful. Honestly, it's a REALLY good rum, my personal favourite before this was Havana Club 7 Year, but this has topped it, and is now my "good rum" that I keep in the house. Only downside it has is that according to hydrometer tests, this rum has about 39g of added sugar per litre, so about 27.3g per bottle, which isn't much, but for people on a keto diet should take into consideration.

A very fine rum indeed
This is a lovely, smooth and complex rum which has the look and taste of a liquid version of an old fashioned Christmas pudding. I suppose that is what is meant by the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) when it says this rum has a: "...deep, old gold colour. Big, inviting, complex nose with prune, raisin, honey, clove and nutmeg. Full, but elegant entry into the mouth where layers of flavour follow the nose with addition of treacle, old marmalade. Super smooth and soft in the mouth with great density and silky flow. Some ripe, tropical flavours appear as does a light oak note. Long and pleasing finish." Whew! The trouble is that taste is so subjective. One person's 'nectar of the Gods' is another person's 'meh'. All I can say is that for me at least, I think for the complexity and depth of flavour, you are going to find it difficult to beat this in the £35-40 price range. It might be in the lower end of the premium rum market, but it has become the rum by which I tend to gauge others. Of course there are better and finer rums on the market, but you had better be prepared to pay substantially more.

Great entry level sipper
Doesn't break the bank so you could have it with a cocktail if you wanted but otherwise a great sipper that I'd say compares favourably alongside diplomatico reserva exclusiva and appleton 12 yr. I'd say if you're getting into your rums and haven't had this then definitely give it a go alongside the others I mentioned to determine what 'style' you like - Appleton has some Jamaican funk, Diplomatico has a bit more sweetness (which newer drinkers that didn't come from Whiskey tend to like) and El Dorado sits somewhere in between that. I pretty much will always have a bottle of this in the drinks cupboard for a sipper that is friendly for crowds (not too expensive but still very very drinkable neat)

Demerara classico e intramontabile
