Silver Clay Workshop: Getting Started in Silver Clay Jewellery

For a beginner to silver clay work, this book provided a very well organised introduction to the craft. The initial photographs are superb and truly inspirational. The basic techniques, including clear descriptions of the materials necessary for each project are well explained and the additional photographs are a bonus as references to what the work should look like. This book is suitable not just for beginners, who might start with project 1 difficulty ratings work, but also for much more experienced silver clay workers who will be inspired by projects in the 2&3 difficulty ratings. The step by step instructions are clear and extremely helpful throughout. All round, this book is excellent value for money.

Really like this book for a beginner it’s clear simple information and instructions that make the thought of doing it much easier and less scary. I look forward to making some of the items soon.

This book is brilliant for anyone just starting to experiment with Silver Clay but also has some great projects for someone with more experience. It goes through everything you need to know from start to finish, from which types/brands of clay you can use through techniques to making pendants,rings,hollow beads etc and shows you that you don't need to buy expensive tools to create beautiful pieces jewellery that you can be proud of. My first steps into the world of Silver Art Clay were on a workshop with Melanie, she is a great teacher and has managed to portray this in the way she has written and illustrated this excellent book.

Good guide for beginners and intermediate

After taking an afternoon metal clay workshop, in a language that I am not fluent in, I really wanted to find a good book with the beginner information that I missed. It took me a long time to decide on one and ended up ordering "Silver Clay Workshop". I definitely got it right! The jewellery ideas are lovely and the information, along with the step by step photos, were just what I needed. I plan to make many of the projects in this book. I can see myself referring to "Silver Clay Workshop" even when I am no longer a beginner. It will always be on my bookshelf. Written by Trish (not Mark- my husband)

I asked for this book for my birthday after receiving a silver clay making kit for Christmas the week before, and after looking around decided on this particular book. It seemed the most informative and detailed, while still being beginner friendly. The visuals, layout and quality of the book are also great which is importantly for me, otherwise I end up losing interest in it. I love the simple step by step instructions with images. There’s so much inspiration and knowledge in this book and even has a page of links telling you where to buy supplies. Including UK, US, Australian and New Zealand suppliers

I recently discovered metal clay and although I'm a proficient crafter, I did not have a lot of success with my first attempt. I was trying far to complicated of a design and never even made it to the drying phase. I have since been looking for books to gain the knowledge I need to try again. I wish I had purchased this book first. I purchased a much more thorough book which I love, but realize that it quickly moves past beginner levels and I found myself in over my head again. This book was suggested by Amazon a few days later and I purchased it on a whim. While I still haven't had a chance to work with the clay again, this time I feel fully prepared for what's to come. This book is highly educational while not burdening you with little tidbits of information that will help after you become proficient but seem to overwhelm in the meantime. This books also gives quality beginner designs that I actually want to make and gives great suggestions on how to enter the hobby relatively cheaply.
