Great Tool
I am very happy with this purchase! I tested each of my vehicles…..one vehicle was ok for brake fluid, but the other two vehicles needed new fluid. I bought more to share with my family. Great Christmas gifts!

How often is the manufacturer recommendation for replacing my brake fluid?
I've been a backyard wrencher since the 1970s...and I never paid much attention to brake fluid unless there was an issue with the brakes...And I certainly never actually replaced brake fluid unless I was performing a major brake overhaul...so, I end up purchasing a premium exotic vehicle and want to perform my own maintenance and it uses DOT4 fluid....manufacturer recommends replacing the brake fluid every 3 thousand miles....huh? No way! Is DOT4 that bad? So I get this device to see just how much moisture the brake fluid absorbs....I'm 17,000 miles into this vehicle and according to this device, I'm not even at 2% moisture...I believe 4% is when the fluid needs to be replaced...so no way every 3 thousand miles...

Perfect for my needs, great display and audible alarm.
Nice display and loud audible notification. I’ve never had the need for a device like this. But since I’ve decided to do some of my own 4Runner maintenance, this was on my list of things to buy to take the guess work out the brake fluid management. It indicated I was ok, so I don’t need to bleed the brakes just yet. I did test it with just water and it was off the charts. I didn’t have fresh brake fluid to test, but I know old the existing fluid was and it confirmed my suspicion. Saved me time and money. I’ll test on the next oil change which I intend to do myself. There are some great how to on you tube. For Toyota vehicles look up the car care nut on YouTube. When finished, I took the batteries out, cleaned and dried the probe, placed in the box for the next use, about 1 year from now. Take care out there and be safe.

Value Exceeds Cost
Seems to work really well. Readings seemed consistent with brake fluid color. One thing I liked was using to test brake fluid in an opened can. I know you’re not supposed to store old fluid, but it’s hard for me to toss expensive high temp German brake fluid…..

Not Accurate.
I have a 2017 Silverado that bought new exactly 7 years ago. The manual says to replace fluid every 5 years so I’m a little behind on this. I opened up my brake fluid reservoir and tested my fluid. It tested at 1.5. I had two quart bottles of unopened Lucas Dot 3 on the shelf, and I was concerned that maybe they had been sitting there for too long. I tested both of them and they both got 1.7. I didn’t want to put something with a worse reading in, so I went and bought a new bottle of Prestone from AutoZone. It tested worst of all at 2.2. I can’t imagine that three unopened bottles tested worse than 7 year old fluid in my truck. What a waste of time.
