You swallow them whole...they are very small...3-4mm

From the rear of the product container it states: Free from: dairy, gluten, lactose, soya, yeast and wheat, no artificial colours or flavours, not tested on animals. Presumably the maltodextrin is not sourced from wheat since the disclaimer mentions wheat and gluten free.
