The Anbernic RG556 has totally reignited my love for retro gaming, and I’m honestly blown away by how much power is packed into such a sleek, compact handheld. First of all, the build quality is fantastic. It feels solid and premium in your hands, with just the right amount of weight. The analog sticks are super responsive, the D-pad is spot-on (crucial for platformers and fighters), and the buttons have that satisfying clickiness that reminds me of classic controllers. But the real star here is the OLED screen—it’s absolutely gorgeous. Colors pop, blacks are deep, and everything from PS2 to Dreamcast games just looks amazing. I’ve played for hours without a hint of eye strain, which is a huge plus. Performance-wise? WOW. The RG556 handles PSP, Dreamcast, GameCube, and even PS2 titles like a champ. I’ve been jumping between God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Sonic Adventure 2, and Resident Evil 4, and they all run super smooth with very little tweaking. The Android 13 interface is snappy, and having access to the Play Store is a total game changer—it’s not just a retro machine, it’s a full-blown Android gaming device! Battery life has been solid too. I’m getting around 6 hours of playtime, depending on the system I’m emulating, and it charges pretty fast via USB-C. The speakers are loud and clear, but I usually game with my Bluetooth earbuds—and yes, Bluetooth and WiFi work great. To top it off, the emulation community support is strong, and setting up my ROMs was surprisingly easy. Anbernic even included some pre-installed emulators, which was a nice touch. Awesome Product! I used a 1 terrabyte micro sd card, and all works well, once you install the proper software. It comes with firmware 1.26, all games run amazing. PS2, N64, Sega, Mame, etc. Switch emulator is still new, so not all software works, but they are gettign there. Love it..

Absolute garbage. This is just an android device with a controller attached. Doesn’t actually come with games on it. You have to go download files.

Day 1 is frustrating with this handheld. So many things to figure out and problems to work through. Once you have everything set up it's an awesome handheld. Particularly fun because you can upscale games and apply shaders and crt filters to make the games look better than the original. Anbernic AI will translate Chinese to English onscreen while gaming if you can figure out how to set it up. Every emulator is preloaded but nothing is explained. The emulators all have onscreen buttons enabled by default which is a pain to figure out how to disable. Keep in mind this is essentially an android tablet so you can also download games from the play store. I have been using this everyday for about 2-4 hours, battery life is acceptable. This device is made for small hands and will get uncomfortable depending on how you hold it. I used the foam cutout in the box to make a modified grip case so that my hands have more to hold on to. Awesome to have the horsepower of the dimensity 8300. It can handle all the upscaling and shaders that you could ever want but this is designed for tinkers that aren't afraid to figure stuff out on your own. Good luck!

This exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for a higher end console that is still beginner friendly (not like the Steamdeck) this is it. I love mine and already got a few pokémon games loaded and it plays beautifully!

Follow the online guides on how to do the setup to optimize this thing. Been great for playing nes all the way up to gc. Good quality, nice screen. Some people don't like the joysticks, but I have 0 complaints with them. This is my first retro handheld, so I'm not an authoritative source.
