SSK brand -- SSD drive
UPDATE - 10-6-2025: Super impressed with this external -- copies 50GB from another external -- the 1TB SSK drive connected to the C port, while the 500GB NVme connected to USB 3.0, the transfer of the 50 GB folder took just under 5 minutes. That may not be fast for some but for me and my past experience with transferring large file, this is fast. Figuring this speed in real time use, It should take approximately 50 minutes to transfer 500GB --10-03-2025 first postLoving this little guy -- fast enough, and by that I mean it is acceptable --- not slow, but not a rocket either. Anyone who had dealt with the over blown claims and actual use on you pc. At first blush I have to say, I love this 1 TB, actual -- 953GB -- as we all know, all of the drives, hard or flash, over rate the storage space you think you get to use. There always seems to be around 100 mb used on the drive that you cannot use. Kinda like car manufactures selling cars they say will get a certain mpg, a figure you, as owner, never seem to get. Anyway, this is a sweet little SSD drive -- SSK brand, has a pretty good reputation, from what I have seen on internet reviews. The price is outstanding. Being an SSD drive is a couple of steps above a standard Flash drive. I have a 500GB NVME drive I took out of a laptop and put in an enclosure, making it and external drive. It runs hot, makes for a good hand warming during cold times, but not so much in the summer. This SSK, almost 1TB, seems to run much cooler, and physically is less than half the size. The one thing I do not like is that you have to use a cable -- well, you don't have to, but this is what it comes with, a 10" cable to connect to pc. I have order something much shorter and a direct connect so no dangling wire. So far so good. I have tried it on a couple of different laptops and it works flawless. I might mention that the packaging is triple A, very nice high end-- too bad to, as it will go to the trash -- sad -- but the first sign of quality, both in and out of the box. This was truly a plug and use, and it seems to run cool -- it gets warm, but so far not HOT, unlike the NVME drive. Love it. I will repost if anything goes sideways. Time will tell.

just what I needed, an external SSD to run a Linux OS separately from Windows OS, already on my PC
I looked for a moderate capacity SSD, to run a Linux Mint OS, without possible harm to my existing Win 10 OS on my PC (never tried this before). I researched and found that the SSK 256GB SSD External Hard Drive had better features at a comparable price to similar SSD's:Built to Last•TRIM technology — Maintains write speeds and extends the drive's longevity over time•S.M.A.R.T. monitoring — Tracks the drive's health so you know if there are any issues•Aluminum enclosure with heat dissipation — Prevents damage from overheating•Solid-state design — No moving parts like traditional hard drives, so less wear and tearWorks great, get one (or more...I'm going to try other Linux Distros on other SSK's)

Misleading “iPhone-Supported” Claim, Only Works After a Mess of Adapters and less GBs
I bought this specifically because the listing said it was supported for iPhones and had an ultra-low 5W power draw so it wouldn’t need any external power. That was the whole selling point for me. But the moment I plugged it into my iPhone, I got the dreaded popup: “This accessory requires too much power.”So right away, the description was clearly wrong. Nothing “ultra low power” about it.To even get this little device to function, I had to pull out my Apple camera adapter—the one with both a USB-A port and a charging port—to supply external power. Suddenly I had a chain of cables and adapters hanging off my phone just to make something work that was advertised as plug-and-play for iPhone. Definitely not what I expected, and definitely not something most buyers would want to deal with.Out of frustration, I ordered an Orico adapter to see if there was ANY way to simplify all this. And honestly, the Orico changed the entire game. I plugged it in, and it worked instantly—no extra cords, no weird power issues, nothing. The only downside with the Orico is that I have to take my phone case off for it to fit, but that’s a small price to pay compared to the headache I went through. That adapter will absolutely be getting a glowing review. As for this product:📌 Does it work? Yes—but only if you buy extra adapters and basically build a small charging station out of your phone.📌 Does it work as described? Absolutely not.📌 Is it worth it? Only if you’re prepared for a fight.I’m giving it 2 stars because it technically works in the end, but the misleading description and the amount of trouble (and extra money) I had to spend to get it working is extremely disappointing. If you’re an iPhone user, be prepared for a lot more hassle than the listing suggests. The first picture is the mix and mess I had to go through to get it to work. Which also I had to be close to an outlet to plug the phone charging cord coming out of the adapter out it wouldn’t work. If I was at an airport or just sitting on the couch it would be So inconvenient to hook this all up but then HAVE to be near an outlet! So it’s not portable at all unless you buy the Orico adapter out one like it. The build quality does feel good like it’s built well but that’s what I expect from SSK they are a reliable brand. So even though they can be a bit more expensive it’s worth it because it’s usually a brand you can count on. The storage capacity says 128 gb but when I hooked it up it says only 119 free. That’s brand new out of the package nothing stored on it yet. Not sure what that’s about. The noise level is fine. I’m not worried about the noise just so frustrated I had to go through all this and buy adapters just to get this to work when the description says for iPhones. They even hype it up saying ultra low draw at 5w for using with iPhone. Super disappointed. I could have paid to get the extra GB for the price I paid for the adapter. Which I needed the 256 GB or above but the 128 G was in my price range but now that I bought the adapter I could have gotten the 256 G or the 512 G. So just know you’ll need to buy an adapter if you want to use it with your iPhone. I really want to give it a 1 star! But with the adapter it works. Also, why does it say I only have 119 gb on it brand new when it’s a 128 GB? Actually I’m sorry I have to change it to a one star it’s just misleading I didn’t get what I ordered because the description was misleading and I bought a 128 gb but only got 119.

Great value
I’m very happy with this drive. It’s fast, compact, and feels well built, making it easy to carry around without worrying about damage. File transfers are noticeably quicker compared to traditional external hard drives, which saves a lot of time when moving large files. It plugs in and works right away with no setup issues, and it stays cool and quiet even during longer use. The sleek design is a nice bonus, and the storage capacity is perfect for backups, schoolwork, or media on the go. Overall, it’s a reliable, high-performance external SSD that offers great value for the price. Highly recommended.

Gets HOT, but still a good buy.
Buy it for the price point, but don't leave it connected if not actively reading/writing to it. It gets really HOT!! I'm not familiar with this brand and if it has self protection mechanisms or not. So to avoid data loss or setting something on fire, I just disconnected as soon as I've accomplished my task. It's much smaller than expected which makes it a joy to carry around because it's not adding a noticeable amount of weight to my laptop bag. The driver installed fast and I haven't had any compatibility issues with it so far. All things considered, I would buy it again.

Great performance in a compact size! This device is small, handy, and surprisingly powerful. I'm using it to run Windows on my iMac so I can play Fortnite, and the speed is spot on. It’s an amazing value for the price if you want to boost your Mac's performance easily.
