Very easy to use and gives accurate readings
I changed from a Hayward T3 salt cell to a generic brand. The new salt cell works fine but it would not calibrate to the actual salt readings. I bought this to use and found it matched my pool stores reading exactly. Very easy to use. I dry it off before I put the cap on and put it away.

Reasonable Product for pond
This is simple to use for a pond, but you need to know your variables for your pond to be able to use it. We use it to keep our Koi pond at .1% salinity. There is an accuracy margin that makes this difficult to be 100% certain, but we have pond plants that are a very good indicator too. We also keep it in the water for a couple minutes when there's a big difference between air temp and pond temp to be sure the temp reading is as accurate as possible. If we do it too fast, we can be off by .02%+. In 8 months, it has maintained its calibration and performed consistently. We make sure to rinse with distilled water and use a paper towel to soak up extra water drops without touching the nodes to ensure no buildup affects the readings. I do not fully submerge it. I have excellent water flow so the full pond volume moves through the waterfall 2-3× per hour though. Not all ponds are equal. This has worked very well for us, but if you have a slow pump, I recommend getting a sample in a cup/bucket on a stick to get a sample from bottom to top and measuring that. I get consistent readings in the waterfall and any spot of my pond. The temp is accurate to my pond thermometer within a minute or two. With winter, the meter is as warm as the house then I put it in 40°F or colder water, it needs a minute or so. In late summer when water and air were about the same still, it was pretty instantaneous. We also do the math on paper when changing water and adding salt back. Dual checks are important to preserve plant life and protect the fish. We might buy a more expensive salinity only someday, but you can be diligent and use this to *verify your results. You shouldn't ever blindly use a meter with living things. Always calculate by pond volume too. It's just what you do to be certain. Ther isn't a simple way to use salt in a pond. But there is a simple way to check on your results!

Consistent, reliable results
Much better than strips! Seems to be reliable one reading to the next for pH measurements. Easy to read, so far no issues.

Only good for a spot check. Will lead to disaster if you trust it for Marine use.
In December, I received nice salt aquarium for Christmas will all the bells and whistles. However, while bringing it up, i didn't like using the traditional refractometer as it can be hard to see. So I bought this. Everything worked fine for 45 days. Then I performed a water change with water I had made to match the tank. I did the change. Later that night, I use the meter to spot check the tank as that is what you do when you micro manage your marine tank. It read 28ppt. I panicked and began raising the salinity over the next day to 35ppt. All is fine. I thought! Then 95% of my large inverts die. All snails but one, all shrimp but one, all crabs but one, and all copepods. I cannot figure it out, checking everything. Next, my coral. All but 4 frags die. 2 of those very ill. I run an ICP test my water comes back perfect with the exception I'm at 44ppt. I assume something could be wrong on their end and took my tester to my son's house and put them side by side. His read 35ppt in his tank, and mine reads 27.5. Never trust this when you have animals lives at stake. If something seems off get the refractometer out. This device and my trust cost me about $500 bucks in livestock.

quick and easy salt tester
my wife is sensitive to salt and our water supply reports don't measure salt. we bought this reasonably priced tester to measure the supplied water and then after running it thru 2 carbon filters. both were coming in at 200 ppm, much higher than desired. this caused us to install a RO system. that brought levels down to just 15 ppm. the tester is great...a quick dip in the sample and you have a steady number in seconds. very pleased with this tester.

Inaccurate readings AND a return trap. Avoid at all costs!
Do not trust the readings on this device. It severely underreported my initial salt levels, causing me to add way more salt than needed. Now my pool is heavily over-salted, and I’m stuck dealing with the massive hassle of draining and refilling water to fix it. To make matters worse, when I tried to return this defective piece of junk, I found out I have to pay for the return shipping to China—which costs exactly what the device itself is worth

Directions way too complicated written Hi, someone who speaks another language.
I read the directions halfway through and realized life is too short. Way too complicated more work than sticking a test strip in the water.
