Great quality and reliability
Great quality and reliable functionality that you'd expect from Western Digital. The capacity is amazing, it has blazing fast read/write speeds, and installation was a breeze as it fits a standard M.2 socket. I was able to immediately initialize and partition it for use after installing it. This went into my laptop, so it obviously changed nothing externally and added only a few grams to the weight. It's pricey, but I'd rather get a good one from a brand I trust than just go with the cheapest option available.

The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB NVMe SSD delivers outstanding speed and performance. Boot times are noticeably faster, games and applications load almost instantly, and overall system responsiveness feels dramatically improved. Installation was simple, and the drive runs reliably even under heavy workloads. It’s a fantastic upgrade for gaming rigs or productivity setups and offers excellent value for such high-end performance.

Excellent SSD, Great Performance After Finding the Right Enclosure and Cable
I bought the WD_BLACK 8TB SN850X NVMe SSD to use with the UGREEN 80Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure and connected it to my M4 Max Mac Studio. At first, I noticed fast transfer speeds, but after transferring a few large files, the speed dropped significantly. Unplugging and reconnecting the enclosure temporarily fixed it, but the issue kept happening. I suspected the problem was the UGREEN enclosure since Western Digital drives have always been reliable for me. I returned the UGREEN and replaced it with the OWC Express 1M2 80Gb/s Enclosure. Transfer speeds were excellent, but the drive started disconnecting a couple of minutes after startup. The included USB-C cable was also too short. I replaced it with the OWC 0.8M Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) Cable, and that completely solved the disconnection issue. Now everything works flawlessly, with consistent speeds of around 5800 MB/s write and 5600 MB/s read, and the enclosure stays cool during long transfers. It took some troubleshooting, but I’m very satisfied with the final setup.

Lightning-fast, reliable, and built for performance — highly recommended.
I’ve been using this drive for a few months, and it’s easily one of the fastest and most stable Gen4 SSDs I’ve tested. Benchmarks reached 7,133 MB/s read and 4,169 MB/s write in performance mode — right in line with WD’s specs. Even under load, it maintained around 6,500 MB/s read and 3,600 MB/s write, showing great consistency. For testing purposes, I also ran a power-saving “stress” scenario that intentionally limited performance to simulate extreme throttling. Those results were only for analysis — customers will never experience that kind of slowdown in normal use. Thermals stay solid with a basic heatsink (mid-50 °C), and there’s no throttling during long transfers. The WD Dashboard software is easy to use and adds an optional Gaming Mode for max speed. ⚖️ Pros: - Reaches full Gen4 performance (7,000+ MB/s reads) - Excellent sustained write speed and thermal stability - Rock-solid reliability for OS, games, or content creation - Intuitive WD Dashboard software ⚠️ Cons: - Can run warm without heatsink - Requires a PCIe Gen4 slot and good airflow for full speed 🏁 Final Thoughts: The WD_BLACK SN850X is a premium SSD that lives up to its reputation. Under the right conditions, it delivers near-theoretical Gen4 speeds and flawless stability. Even in multitasking or gaming scenarios, performance stays consistent and responsive. The “low” benchmark results included here were testing artifacts—stress conditions designed to show how power management affects throughput, not what normal users should expect. In everyday use, this drive is exceptionally fast, reliable, and built to last. ✅ Verdict: A flagship-level NVMe SSD that rewards systems tuned for performance. Highly recommended for gamers, developers, and creators who want speed with zero compromise.

Great SSD, but Not Compatible with the Kwumsy K3 Dock ⚠️💻
The WD_BLACK 1TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD is a top-tier Gen4 PCIe solid-state drive, delivering lightning-fast speeds and exceptional performance for gaming and multitasking. However, if you’re planning to use it with a Kwumsy K3 keyboard dock, be aware that this SSD isn’t compatible, as the M.2 slot in the dock requires a specific size or configuration. What makes the SN850X great: Blazing-fast performance: With Gen4 PCIe technology, the SN850X offers up to 7,300MB/s read speeds, ensuring lightning-fast load times for games and applications. It’s a beast for high-performance PCs and gaming rigs. ⚡🎮 Reliable storage: At 1TB, it provides ample space for large games, files, and programs while maintaining exceptional reliability and efficiency. 🗂️📈 Gaming-focused features: Optimized for gaming, the SN850X includes features like a low-latency mode for smoother gameplay and faster response times, making it ideal for gamers who demand peak performance. 🎯🔥 The issue with the Kwumsy K3: Unfortunately, while the Kwumsy K3 keyboard dock offers an M.2 slot, its size or power delivery isn’t compatible with the SN850X. Always double-check the size and type of the M.2 SSD slot (e.g., NVMe vs. SATA, 2230 vs. 2280 size) before purchasing an SSD for devices like docks or compact enclosures. 🛑💻 Bottom line: The WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB SSD is an outstanding choice for gamers and PC builders, but it’s not suitable for the Kwumsy K3 keyboard dock due to compatibility issues. Make sure to confirm the requirements of your device before purchasing to avoid compatibility hiccups. 💻⚡❌

Fast NVMe SSD with legendary quality -- zero issues after 18 months
Not a whole lot to say—this WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB is rock-solid. Installation was dead easy; popped right into the M.2 slot, no drama or BIOS tweaks needed. Game loads, file transfers—everything feels blazing fast compared to my old drive. Legendary WD quality shines through: no crashes, no throttling, no weird errors after 18 months of heavy daily use (gaming, work, storage). It's performed flawlessly in my setup. Great value for the capacity and speed. No complaints at all; if you're upgrading storage, this one's a winner. Would buy again without hesitation.

Works great with the Sabrent enclosure.
Buying this was my first venture with NVMe SSD, and I bought it along with the Sabrent enclosure. So far, very impressed with both items - they work very well together and seem to make heavy duty data transfers doable in a very reasonable and short time - like even a Time Machine back-up. Being new with NVMe, maybe I am too easily impressed - but impressed I am, and very happy with my purchase. NOTE: Another version of this very same NVMe model is sold that has its own Heat Sink. I bought that first and then had to return it because it does not fit in the Sabrent. It may appear that its Heat Sink is removable, but from what I understand, removing it will void its warranty - and I wasn't comfortable with the thought of removing the Heat Sink myself to begin with when I saw it. With my luck, the manufacturer released a new version of this NVMe soon after I bought this. Still, very happy with my purchase and keeping it.

Beware, I had to purchase Acronis True Image software to clone my new WD SSD.
I normally order the Samsung SSDs for the quality, reliability and free software clone the drive. I decided to try the WD as a different option for my HP Victus Desktop. I typically use the ACASIS NVME SSD Reader Adapter for the Samsung drives without any problem. Unfortunately with the Acronis True Image software that you download from WD, I couldn’t get it to recognize the drive so it would not license the software so I could clone the new drive. The Samsung drives and software have no issue with the adapter. Ultimately I ended up purchasing the 1 year subscription of Acronis as the 30-Day Free Trial does not allow you to use the Clone functionality, you have to purchase the full version. I hope this helps, I’ll stick with the Samsung SSDs going forward.
