BUYERS BE AWARE.
Please! please! do not buy it. Don't buy this battery grip. It doesn't work. I stop using it 3 months ago because anytime I use it, I gets a massage that battery power is low and to replace battery even though the batteries are 100%. if I remove the battery grip and use the same batteries in the battery grip they work well without any issues. THE SAD PART OF IT IS THAT THE CAMERA WILL NOT WORK UNTIL YOU TURN THE CAMERA OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. COULD YOU IMAGIN IF YOU ARE SHOOTING A WEDDING OR THE CAMERA STOP WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF RING EXCHANGE? I don't write negative review but I don't want any photographer to experience the same issue. save some money and buy the original battery grip from Nikon. I have used newer products before they are fantastic and work well, but this one is not working for me. unfortunately I can't return it because it has pass return time.

Neewer has a good reputation for Nikon accessories...
Opting for third-party accessories for Nikon cameras is not without its hazards, despite these products often matching the performance of Nikon’s own. The risks vary, from minor hiccups during a shoot to the potential effects of a Nikon firmware update on your accessory’s functionality, which could, in exceptional cases, render it inoperable. My journey with non-Nikon power sources began with my first D90. While my experiences with third-party batteries have been largely positive, I found that they can limit the maximum frame speed on some Nikon models. Neewer has a good reputation among Nikon shooters as a maker of quality non-OEM acccessories. This Neewer battery pack’s look and feel are indistinguishable from Nikon’s MB-N12, right down to the identical switches and similar rubber grip. However, it’s worth mentioning that I recently read a report of power failures with non-OEM MB-N12 Nikon-compatible grips during shoots, only for the grip to work fine the next day. For those whose income depends on bulletproof reliability of camera accessories, it might be wise to invest in Nikon even if they cost three times as much as third-party options.

Locks up my camera. Worthless.
At first this thing looked cool and I tried it once and it was fine. But now all it does is lock up my camera. I might get a few shots here there and then the camera glitches out. It’s pretty sad. I was hopeful, but I wish it would have worked.

My Z8 has suddenly begun to power-cycle with this grip being used to power it.
UPDATE: Neewer Customer Service responded to my email regarding the failure. They provided possible remedies (cleaning contatcs, reseating, etc.) that did not work. They followed up with a choice replacement remedies (shipping from manufacturer, checking warehouse stock, etc.). I explained that my confidence was low in using a new grip of the same design and that I would rether return it for a refund. At this point, I have owned the grip for about 7 months; while under warranty - it was well outside of the return window and expected that I would get a new copy. To my surprise, the next day I received email notice from Amazon that I was refunded the full amount of my purchase price. I wrote back to Neewer and told them I was very happy and thanked them. They added that they do not want to product back. The grip gets 1 star for premature failing, 5 stars while it worked and 10 stars for Neewer Customer Service. My Original review (submitted only days earlier) is below: 5 Stars - at first. This device worked flawlessy for the 7 months I've owned it (~4k photos). Then yesterday - about 50 photos into an event, my Z8 I bought with it began power-cycling. I first noticed the screen turning on and off - so I shut off the camera and turned it back on again. It began power cycling again. I fiddled with the battery grip and ensured it was secured to the Z8 body - and it had the same problem again. I removed the grip and inserted one of the batteries from the grip directly into the camera and it began working properly and showed the battery at nearly full charge. I wiped the contacts of the grip and reinserted the grip into the camera. Power cycling returned. I will have to contact Newer to see what they say...

Great accessory from NEEWER
NEEWER has established a reputation for making quality accessories for photography/video/content creation and selling them at a reasonable price point. I've lost count of how many NEEWER products I own and for good reason--they work and work well. This is a great accessory for the Nikon Z8. The grip allows vertical and horizontal shooting. It's durable and highly functional. It also can be used with any tripod or other mount that uses a 1/4" screw. You can even power the battery while using the grip (you'll need a USB C cable). Were that not enough, the package comes with a pair of servicable replacement batteries. The batteries are EN-EL15c but the grip works just fine with any EN-EL15 variant. There's also a dual channel USB charger so you can keep shooting and always have batteries ready to go. Typical NEEWER quality and value. Highly recommended!

DO NOT BUY THIS.
One star is too many. The product does not function at all. I have gone through 4 handles and all do the same thing. These power cycle your camera at some point and it will keep power cycling ever second until you remove the battery. Once this error happens the handle never works again. Of the four handles Neewer sent me one lasted 2 weeks, one failed after pressing the shutter button once and the other some time between that. Absolute garbage of a product. If you can even call it a product.

Perfect replacement for OEM vertical grip
I wanted to extend the usage of my Nikon Z8 out in the field without having to swap out the batteries so often, and this vertical battery grip by Neewer is a perfect solution at half the cost of the OEM version. It comes with two EN- EL15c batteries that should give you twice the amount of shooting time. You can watch the attached video on how to install the batteries into the grip. I've used many Newer products in the past and they produce high quality equipment, and this vertical grip is no exception. It is solidly built and is ergonomically designed just as the original OEM part. I'm sure I will get a lot of use out of this and I highly recommend this product.

Faulty Product - locks up camera - buyers beware
Awful. Product failed on first try. Locked up my camera when shooting at 20fps. Took grip off and let camera sit for a few days. Shot at 20 gps without the grip for the last few months with no issues. Tried putting the grip back on yesterday after not using for a few months - guess what - camera wouldn’t turn on, was locked up the same way as before. Threw the grip away. Don’t waste your Monty on this product. Buyer beware. Would rate zero if I could.

fail after 8 or 9 months.
the grip fitted well right away. i hadnt tightened it up all the way initially and the camera went off/on. turning it more so it was really tight worked. havent tested the charger or batteries yet but for the price, i expect to use them just as emergency backup. using the 24-120 lens, when i turned the zoom ring, my fingers collided as the lens to regular grip spacing is tight. the larger battery grip solves that problem. edit after 8 months of use. the grip wheel for index finger has failed. rating reduced. edit jan2026 (9months of use): during a shoot the camera began to cycle off/on. pulling the battery tray and reinserting didnt help. i have removed the grip now. camera works fine. rating reduced to 1

Buyer beware
I have 2x Z8’s. Last year I bought this grip and it failed within a week. I received a replacement and bought another. Soon afterwards I bought another so both cameras had grips. The grips worked fine last year. I put the cameras away and used a different camera system for the winter season. I brought both cameras out of storage at the beginning of this week. Yesterday BOTH grips failed as the cameras went into the “on off cycle” other reviewers have described. Both cameras are fine with the battery directly inserted. In short my experience has matched other reviewers ie the grips fail within a few months. I would no longer risk these grips on my cameras.

Pas très fiable, en panne après 2,5 mois
En panne après 2 mois 1/2, et trop tard pour le renvoyer. Je vais essayer de faire marcher la garantie mais j'ai des doutes. Très déçu... Vu le prix je m'attendais à mieux.

Costruzione molto economica e problemi, sconsigliato
