Number 5 is alive
I have bought other generic building block sets in the past, and it has been a mixed bag. While some are better than others, the reality is that for the most part, you can immediately tell they are not the same quality level as Lego. This is no exception; it still feels less quality. But compared to most I have owned, the quality here is actually pretty good. The pieces feel sturdy and the finished set feels like it can withstand moving it around and posing it. The cell phone-controlled motor is also a super nice addition, it is an incredible good value, comparing it to other building block sets. The instructions could be improved a bit, as they are confusing in several parts, but overall is not a complicated build. The final build is actually very good and sturdy and it really resembles Johnny 5.

Great kit!!
Great kit! Very minimal issues assembling it. Instructions were relative painless to follow. The appearance, aside from being a darker color than the actual movie character, is pretty spot on.

Johnny 5 Is Alive!
This was a fun build and that it was remote controlled is nice. Moves like a tank and head swivels. Arms are poseable. Larger than I thought it would be (18" tall), but looks very much like Johnny 5 from the movie. Model is USB chargeable and remote uses 2 AA batteries (not included).

Tough build but rewarding at the end.
First. The only reasons I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars was because there were two pieces, critical pieces that were missing and the delicacy of this figure is extremely apparent throughout the build. The neck was challenging as I was trying to line up the proper holes for the specific pegs while at the same time not breaking off the gear built into the neck that turns the head when motorized. The amount of small pieces was also a challenge. At times it felt like it would never end. There was a large cylindrical section missing from the laser build. This caused me to remove a cylinder piece from the right side pack and replace it with a smaller red cylinder piece which ended up working well. Without the cylinder piece, you can complete the laser build. Parts of it feel solid while other areas feel very fragile so be careful especially if you have kids or pets that love knocking stuff over. Once finished, the look and color of the figure is pretty amazing. I havenโt tried the electronics yet but I will soon. Itโs a great and challenging set and the price is pretty awesome. Iโm curious what changes that โLegoโ would make if they ever sponsored this. I should mention the arms move as well as the fingers, head and laser cannon. Could it be fun for kids? Sure but to me itโs more an adult collector from an iconic 80s film.

Challenging and engaging build
For starters, my set came with ALL THE PIECES, plus some spares as you'd expect from a MOLDED ABS INTERLOCKING BLOCK BUILDING SET. Some challenges I ran into: 1) This set uses pieces that are crimes against nature; Pieces I pined for in my pre-teen dream mind. Cheater bricks used EVERYWHERE, and that's fine. But wow it takes a lot of brain power to navigate the nuanced, weird, eclectic pieces that make this neat little set a reality. 2) Colors. You've got your blue-gray, dark gray, light grey, bright grey, black, and of course just plain blue. It can be tricky at times to discern which grey to use when. 3) Instruction density is REAL. Pay attention, or you'll miss a step. Again, not hard, but time consuming. Finding the piece, making sense of the orientation all just gobbles up valuable brain cycles. 4) Mobility: Johnny can turn his head and drive as a tank would drive from the motors. Not bad for an inexpensive toy building set, but kinda eh. His little arms can be moved by hand, but the shoulder joints have just barely enough stiction to keep him how you set him; they're OK now, but I imagine with time they'll loosen up. The rear wheels are merely decorative; he pivots on a steel ball and the rear tires hover above the surface. Convincing but limited. At no point did I need to use glue or run into any problems with the pieces not sticking, within reason. The most dubious connections are the little hubcaps that go over the rear wheels. Everything else clicked together with name-brand-like assertion. The included generic controller does not take into consideration the fact that this vehicle is skid steer, so it's not intuitive to drive jOhNnY aRoUnd (wOulDn'T yOu LiKe 2 b A pEpPeR tOo??) When Johnny drives, his hard plastic tank treads clatter around gracelessly. This shall remain a static figurine. For $70, just get the stupid thing. The box is absolutely packed with bricks and it will eat up some of your time. After all the trouble, you're rewarded with a fine piece of nostalgia. Excellent job making this set a reality, China. I don't know how you do it.

Loose pieces come apart easily during construction.
Nice model, but not being up to Lego quality for the parts, super glue is a requirement to make sure sections of the model stay together properly. Good design, looks, functionality otherwise.

Johnny 5
This is a fun build I loved Johnny 5 as a kid so this was something I definitely wanted to add to the collection.
