HIGHTLY RECOMMENDED This cover does in fact protect the pump well from rain, dirt, and direct sunshine.
HIGHTLY RECOMMENDED I have had one of these on my well pump for 15 years, and it still is holding up well, and has kept that pump running trouble free, even though it is exposed to the elements back behind the hedges. I am using this new one for the pool pump just to keep the rain and sunshine off of it trying to buy a couple more years of life for it. I see a good deal of negative reviews, and I am left scratching my head as to why? PRO: It looks better than an un-protected pump. This cover does in fact protect the pump well from rain, dirt, and direct sunshine. It seems to last a long time even in direct sun. Adds years to your expensive pool pump CON: The only con is that the material is a bit brittle when handled harshly. I suggest that you take a couple of extra minutes to test fit, and figure out which size pump housing you are attaching it to. There are two sizes marked on the locking tab. L and S. Start with the L just double check before you assemble the cover. Also when cutting out the knock out BE CAREFUL NOT TO DESTROY THE COVER. It can be tricky, place the panel on an old phone book so you can SLOWLY work a sharp pointed knife or blade into the cut out. Do Not Force it, it will break if done too harshly TAKE YOUR TIME DO NOT FORCE IT. Use finesse rather that a Tour De Force. If you get it right it will last a long time. And for $20 it is disposable...RIGHT? ---UPDATE--- A year of Florida sunshine later it is still good. 5 Stars A++ RECOMMENDED VOTE thumbs UP IF YOU FOUND THIS HELPFUL

Excellent for the price
Excellent for the price. Does not fit exactly, but it is a "Universal" after all. It went over the pump motor fine and does its intended job. I cut a small area out to go around the output of the pump so it would slide forward and protect the front of the motor since it was long enough to still cover the back of the motor. does not go all the way to the ground on mine, but I may put plastic on the bottom to extend it a bit to stop water from splashing in on the sides. That might be over kill. It does protect the pump from the rain and sun.

Protects Your Pool Pump from Sun and Rain
Protects Your Pool Pump from Sun and Rain I’ve used the Blue Devil Adjustable Motor Cover for years on different pool pump setups, and it does what it’s supposed to do—keep the motor safe from direct sun, rain, and debris. The UV-resistant plastic really does help extend the life of a pump that would otherwise be exposed day in and day out. My last cover lasted several seasons in the California sun before showing signs of brittleness, which isn’t bad considering the price. Setup is simple but does take a little patience. The adjustable inner brackets snap into place, but you’ll want to make sure they’re seated properly before trying to fit the cover over your motor. One thing to note: the cover only comes with a single knockout panel for the power cord, and if your wiring comes out in a different spot, you may need to carefully cut your own opening. If you’re not handy, that could be a drawback. The lightweight plastic makes it easy to handle, though it also means it won’t tolerate rough treatment. Handle it gently during installation, and it should serve you well. Once in place, it looks neat and does a good job of keeping water and sun off the pump. Bottom line: A practical, affordable way to extend the life of your pool pump by shielding it from the elements. Not indestructible, but well worth it for a bit of extra protection and peace of mind.

This is the real deal quality housing!
First of all, there are several different brands of these motor covers on the web. This "Blue Devil" is the real deal brand that they sell in your local pool store for twice as much cost! I got 5 years in the hot florida sun on my last one and thats pretty darn good. With the high cost of pump motors these days, this motor cover is essential in extending the life of your expensive pump motor. Be careful when cutting out the slot for the pump wiring conduit. I used a Dremel cutting wheel and it was a much safer way then trying to use rzaor cutter. Lastly, I suggest using a tie-wrap to secure this cover in windy weather so it doesnt blow away & crack.

Good, but not quite right
This is a plastic pool pump hood or cover to protect the pump from the elements. You need to place the adjustable inserts to tailor it to your particular pump. Where it falls down is the help offered in tailoring it to your pump. The point of this is to cover an outdoor pump. It starts off well designed, but falls down on design thinking follow-thru. It gives only one possible placement for the power cable that is coming out of the side of the pump. They stamp out a removable panel and it is on both sides of the plastic perforated piece of sidewall. If your power is not in the ONLY place they made the perforation then you have to be able to modify it yourself and you have to be medium level handy. It would have been easy for perforations to be made and stamped into the plastic so you can make it conform to you individual pump. This is basic fail is on thinking the product thru and providing perforations to accommodate whatever your pump configuration may be. Obviously my pool pump has power coming out at a different place from where they expect the power to be coming out. One perforation is provided and if that isn't the right spot, you need to be prepared to make the modification yourself. It would have been easy to provide a multitude of perforations and you can punch out the right spot for access to your power entrance into the pump. They not only provide only one such place, it is in the very same spot on both sides of the "hood" lol. They could have perfed each side different. Bottom line, you need to be handy enough to make it fit for your use.The bad thing it, it is such a design thing to fix I am surprised it wasn't already incorporated. Look at your own pump and see what could be blocking this hood from simply sliding onto the pumps topside. In my case, the power comes out the side of the pump and there is no way to just pop the hood into place without modding the design. This difficulty level would be moderate to medorate high depending on if you can score and cut out a hole in the plastic.

Unsure if it is necessary
I had to replace my pool pump and I wanted to make sure it is well protected, as much as a pool pump can be. My previous pump was not protected and only lasted 8 years, but it gave me nothing but trouble at the beginning of spring each year. Even though it ran during winter/fall too. So this was a recommendation from the new pool pump manufacturer and for $20, I figured why not. I am not a fan of the Mattel looking blue and white, so I rattle canned it black to match my existing pool equipment. Now it looks much better. As far as putting it to gather, for the most part it was simple, just that clip on the inside ended cutting my finger. Instructions were meh, but not terrible, take your time. Connects to the pool pump as designed and stays in place. Easy to remove and put back.

Keeps your motor out of the heat
well designed as it has knock outs to allow electric cord. Perfect for my motor as shutoff and electric cord are at end of motor . Instruction easy to follow for assembly and can be taken on and off to work on motor. Motor has not tripped out since I put this on three weeks of 30c heat.
