Bought for elderly uncle who was there at the end of WW2 and for me there in 2000s to provide a talking point comparing experiences.

Interesting tome

this book is a wonderful trip down memory lane with full size compare and contrast photographs next to each other-the contrast is remarkable and to see the city today is nothing short of miraculous. A fine set of very high quality photos.

Good sturdy book, the pictures are really good and nice size to, like the contrast with the old and new - shows how far Singapore has come, to the days I remember when we were stationed there. back in the 60/70s - worth buying if your thinking of visiting or just want a taste of the far east nostalgia.

This fascinating book book arrived very promptly, well packaged and in extremely good condition. Mostly through picture form this book gives an highly absorbing view of Singapore of long ago and how it has changed over time from a small British port to a major trading and financial hub in the modern city state it is today. Well worth looking at. Would recommend this book.

Following a general map and a very short historical introduction, this book presents, for each pair of pages, photos of the same location in Singapore, that on left taken at some time in the past and that on the right being recent. This allows for comparisons that are particularly interesting as the city has changed at a tremendous pace in the past few decades. The author, who took the photos, includes brief but pertinent comments for each. Overall, this work provides much information that will prove of interest to urban specialists and non specialists concerned with Singapore’s evolution.
