Sturdy, intelligently built, and shockingly interchangeable parts
[Forewarning, I'm a yapper. This review may be long.] In short, this does what it says it will. If you need a mount with parts that can easily be removed and swapped out, a variety of ways you can adjust the structure to suit your needs, and supports adding entirely new parts, then get this. My only warning is that the phone clip can only hold a maximum of 4-inch-width devices, give or take. So if your device is bigger than that, id suggest looking for a separate clip you can replace the built-in one with. [Elaboration, if you care for it.] I haven't had a need for something like this until just recently, so I admittedly haven't had the most research or input into the best options as I have for other utilities. But considering the price compared to what I got, I by no means regret anything! The box's weight alone was pretty promising, and testing it out proves to be near perfect. I wouldn't call myself a Vtuber, but anyone here for that purpose should definitely consider this option for a mount. I have drawn and rigged a handful of models, although that's mainly for DnD sessions. It became immediately apparent that I needed somewhere I could put the camera I was using. While plastic isn't an ideal material, I'd give it a pass here. Some sockets, the covers, the handles to tighten the joints, and the phone holder itself are all made of plastic. Based on my using microphone boom arms (and moving them around excessively,) I believe the phone clamp is the only piece that might suffer from being plastic. I don't have a tape measure, but my guesstimate is that you have maybe three and a half, or four inches to work with in device width. My current phone needs to have the case removed to fit, which is what I was using to test it. But the device meant for the mount in the first place should fit just fine. The rubber grips have an "L" shape to them, which seems to really assist in keeping your phone steady, and they arent harsh enough to break anything. But even with my gripes in the phone clamp, it's not a big deal. Considering this piece can be removed and switched out at will with anything that has the same size screw or adapter. (Something I am regrettably not the right person for to measure.) With the included grip, you can attach the arm to the back, so it holds the phone in front. Or you can attach it to the end, so it holds the device on top. This piece can also rotate when needed. Additionally, you change out whether the arm is attached to the bottom or top of the desk clamp. In the case that you find the arm to be too long, or you have pieces that would fit as an extension, you can easily remove a pole and move it elsewhere, by unscrewing the joint as far as possible and popping the balljoint out, or popping a new one in. This includes the adapter that holds the phone grip onto the arm, in the case it requires a replacement. (Particularly relevant if you have a better grip you want to attach, which needs a different size to screw onto.) Considering the price, I am already quite happy with the value. On its own out of the box, it works perfectly. While I wish it could be manipulated easier, i am more than okay with sacrificing that for the stability it has. But on top of that, every piece can be replaced or swapped out with minimal trouble. It feels like it was designed to be something you keep forever, only swapping out single parts if something happens. I may not be a professional at determining what utilities are the absolute best. But at least in this instance, I was surprised. I was expecting a temporary tool I could replace later on if need be. But instead I got something reliable, sturdy, and meant to last forever. I realize this is a weird point to harp on, but it feels especially important to me. It doesnt feel like a product that was spat out for the sake of selling something. It feels like something you would have made for yourself, with the intent of future-proofing it. With some creativity and patience, I don't see myself ever throwing this out for any purpose.

the perfect phone holder for filming at a desk
If I could give it 6 stars I would. Up till now I've been using a subpar phone holder. But this one is so amazing. You can turn it any way you like, and it is well made. It was also very carefully packaged, which I appreciate. The clamps seem very strong and the phone holder has foam and rubber so it will not damage the phone. I'm an artist so I like to make videos of my art while filming from overhead. This can do that at both vertical and landscape angles, as well as be easily adjusted to film upright as well.

Exactly what I needed for my desk camera setup
I bought this because I use a real camera on my desk instead of a webcam. I connect my camera directly to my computer and record a lot of content. Itโs kind of like a streaming setup, even though Iโm not actually a streamer. I wanted something that would hold my camera right in front of me like a webcam, but also let me change angles when I wanted. This mount has been great. Itโs very sturdy and built really well. The clamp is strong and adjusts easily to the desk. Once itโs tightened and positioned, it doesnโt move at all. If you intentionally tug on it, sure, you can make it shift a little, but during normal use thereโs no shake and no drift. Setup was easier than I expected. At first you just have to get used to how the joints move, but once you understand that, adjusting it is simple. I mainly use it with my Sony camera, and being able to loosen the screw and dial in the exact angle I want is a big plus. I like it so much that I ended up buying two. I got my first one in August 2025 and another in January 2026. Instead of constantly unclamping and moving it around for different angles, I just added a second one to my desk. Itโs slim, minimal, and doesnโt clutter my setup. Itโs been perfect for content creation and for using my camera as a webcam. People constantly comment on how good the video looks, and a big part of that is having the camera held securely in the right position. Iโve tried propping cameras up in other ways before, and nothing was this stable or clean. Would I buy it again? Yes. I already bought two, and if I ever needed another one, I wouldnโt hesitate.

Better than expected
This is my second Smallrig product and I couldnโt be happier. Iโm in a wheelchair and I use all kinds of different magic arms and clamps for my phone and so far this is the most rigid arm Iโve used. The clamp could definitely be a little more stiff but itโs still a pretty decent clamp. It pairs nicely with my 17 pro phone cage case from Smallrig. I definitely recommend. Wouldโve given 5 stars if it had a stronger clamp Follow up after three months of use. I bought this for use with the Smallrig iPhone 17pro aluminum case/cage and although it is possible to CRANK the joints down to keep them from falling it tends to be way easier to just use a simple lightweight phone mount for a tripod. Also the locking pins are a huge advantage compared with other brands that donโt have them. All in all still happy with the purchase.

Solid, great arm
Great arm! Solid, well built, and very adjustable. Honestly don't waste your time trying other mounts to save a few bucks, in the end this is so much better. I use this as a phone mount to use an old phone as a webcam, this helped me level up my game.

Good but wiggles in some areas and phone clamp too small
The rig feels stable enough with my behemoth iPhone 15 Plus on it aside from the metal fastener at the bottom which allows the mount to move from side to sideโthat I have found is a little wobbly even when I tighten it as far as I can. My biggest issue with this product is the clamp which holds the phone itself. Itโs listed as holding phones up to 8.5 cm in width but in my experience it falls a few mm short, and in my case those mm do matter. I basically had to grapple with the rig to force the phone clamp open far enough and even then it feels overly tight and difficult to use. I feel like I shouldโve gotten the MagSafe mount instead.

If you're thinking about it, buy it.
I got the ads on TikTok for this, which left me wondering if it was worth the hype. Short answer is yes. First and foremost- It's super well built. The main clamp is metal, the arms are metal, the joints are all metal. They even went so far as to add rubber o-rings to all the ball joints to increase friction. It's amazing. The catch is they cheaped out on the phone clamp included in the base. The spring and tensioning mechanism inside of it feels.... cheap and prone to breaking. That being said, the grip it has on your phone is super secure. Mega bonus points for including a cold shoe mount at the top of the phone holder- I have found this incredibly useful for adding a little battery powered LED light. This thing also packs and travels super well. It uses the standard tripod screws for the base at the top of the arm, making it endlessly configurable- I would have no qualms using this with a point and shoot type vlogging camera. I've even used it for a webcam. This makes it the perfect tool for streaming, product photos, or even overhead desk shots. The hallmark of any good product is how intuitive it is to use out the box, and this is where it shines. The Smallrig is worth the hype because it's built with insane quality for the price.
