You need a rock drill to install them in rocky ground. - If you have hard or rocky soil, don't try to hammer these in. The tops will shatter easily even if you use a rubber mallet. Instead I used a hammer drill and 3/8" rock/masonry drill bits. The drill is not cheap but it makes an otherwise impossible job very easy. The posts are nearly invisible at a distance making the electrical tape fence appear to be floating in mid air. Overall I am very pleased with the results as is my HOA.
