Product Description The fourth studio album by the American rock band, originally released in August 1989. After the death of founding guitarist Hillel Slovak and the subsequent departure of drummer Jack Irons, vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea regrouped with the addition of guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith. Frusciante's influence altered the band's sound by placing more emphasis on melody than rhythm, which had dominated the band's previous material. Returning producer Michael Beinhorn favored heavy metal guitar riffs, as well as overdubbing perceived by Frusciante as excessive, and as a result, Beinhorn and Frusciante constantly fought over the album's guitar sound. .co.uk The Chili Peppers finally hit their stride with Mother's Milk, for the first time making their breakneck mix of funk, rap, and metal smooth enough to attract the masses, while keeping it raw enough not to alienate old fans. They've straddled that edge ever since. It didn't hurt that they offered a pretty mainstream cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" to introduce the album. That single though, and the rest of Mother's Milk (including "Knock Me Down" and the randy "Sexy Mexican Maid") is pure Pepper--from Anthony Kiedis's in-your-face vocals to Flea's chattering bass. The true breakthrough album
This is the true breakthrough album by the Chili Peppers, driven by the "semi hit" singles Higher Ground (a Stevie Wonder cover) Taste The Pain and lead single Knock Me Down.Being the fourth album released by the group you have a collection of great songs by a band fully finding their identity and sound.Soulful and at times Funky as well as tender in places there are no weak songs to be found.For those whom later albums are their starting point for this band, this should be an essential purchase.

Love this
I already had this album from iTunes and some strange forced me to want to get this for the future, you know, just in case I develop a bad taste in music. This album has my favourite RHCP song on it and I can't recommend it enough for anyone who likes catchy, fast tempo song, like Nobody Weird Like Me is definitely high tempo and it's great also. In my opinion, this is some of Flea's best work in terms of crazy, crazy basslines. So, do buy it!!

A good place to start for a newbie perhaps
A good place to start for a newbie perhaps ? A good selection of tracks ranging from funk beats ,rap and rock combined with the odd ballad and a worthy collection. Its RHCP before Blood sugar sex magic and Californication; If you like those two albums you are pretty sure to get on ok with this.

Angry Funk
RHCP Mothers Milk is overshadowed by the Hit Single that came from it Higher Ground. The rest of the album is met with technical musician ship and speedy licks throughout. In later years I feel it is an album that has been forgotten but should be re-visited to appreciate its expertise.

Mal manejo de producto
El disco como tal está bien y todo, pero el producto llego con rajaduras en la carcaza de plástico del CD y eso me molesta por el poco cuidado con el que se manejo el paquete y se me hace muy frágil a la hora abrirlo para sacar el disco.

Un concentré de ....tout ce que deviendront les red hot
J ai écouté cet album pour la première fois cette année ( je possede tous les albums posterieurs ) , imparfait , brouillon , voix mal calée, il contient néanmoins tous les ingrédients de leurs futurs succes : melodie , changement de rythme, musicien talentueux et enthousiastes (hendrix n est jamais loin) , energie monstrueuse , des sections cuivres rares par la suite mais au combien sympas,l évolution entre cet album et le blood sugar est cependant abyssale . A ecouter pour comprendre l histoire de ce groupe...et adopter quelques classiques de plus
