Hallowed Legends: Samhain Collector's Edition (PC DVD)

This is truly an addictive, 'spellbinding' game; kept me occupied for hours. If you enjoy mystery, a touch of blackmagic in your games you will definitely need this in your collection. Superb.

Had to give this game one star because after playing for a minute or two I get an 'error access violation at 0x685B2635 tried to read from 0x00000020 program terminated' message. I have tried every suggestion on how to deal with this and absolutely nothing works. Luckily this disc didn't cost much. Have many other hidden object games but never had this problem. Suggestions welcome!

don't know what the actual game is like because even thou it was in the proper box and had the proper name printed on the disc when I played it , it was a totally different game.....how odd

This is an untimed point and click adventure with plenty of hidden object scenes and mini puzzles. There are also unlimited hints and a built-in strategy guide. The artwork in this game is quite good but not outstanding. The pictures are bright and open so add no sense of foreboding or atmosphere to support the storyline. There are numerous hidden objects games and, whilst the scenes are quite crowded, they are clearly drawn with many objects very well disguised. There is a list of 12 items to locate and it is straightforward i.e. there are no interactions between objects as in some higher end games. There is an unlimited hint button which is quite quick to recharge. There are many mini games which range in difficulty but all can be skipped if need be. As with all games in this genre there is a lot of coming and going. Most actions are quite obvious but others are more obscure. If stuck there is a `Strategy Guide' button in the top left corner which can be accessed at any time with no disruption to the game play. With 12 chapters the game is of a reasonable length but, with no real sense of atmosphere, I personally found it boring and uninteresting. The storyline is not very original (Cornish Celtic `mystery') which was also a let-down. Once completed bonus material becomes available but only consists of a few pieces of artwork and some music. Nothing really special. As a point and click adventure this outing cannot hold it's own amongst the better games and only deserves 3 stars but it's length and built-in strategy guide allows for an extra star.
