Awesome machine and quality for the price
The Ray 5 10 W laser engraver is easy to set up and use, works with Lightburn and Laser GRBL software. It does have a little of a learning curve but that might be the software Lightburn more than the laser cutter / engraver. It has great functionality and build quality. It has a good size work area 400 mm x 400 mm and can cut through cuts through materials up to 0.8 inches/20mm thick for wood and 1.2 inches/30mm thick for acrylic. I appreciate its value for the cost and the functionality for both DIY and small business projects. I cannot wait to start using it more often. I had to contact customer support for assistance because I misplaced my focusing rod, but they were great help and responded promptly. Sorry about my voice and stiff speaking.

Great product will definitely buy again!
They work amazingly!! This is my 3rd and 4th laser. I used my first 2 for almost 2 years and I ran them almost not stop! The customer service is by far the best I have ever had! The machine is very durable and at 10w the perfect size! I can etch in glass, acrylic and wood with absolutely no problems at all. And can cut wood and acrylic with ease! I will definitely be buying more Longer Ray5 10w lasers in the future, may even try the 20w version to see what else I can do with them. I would highly recommend Longer for all your laser needs!!!

Great Product for the price! Great Service on top of that!
I've had the Longer Laser Engraver now for about five months. I use LightBurn software with it, which took some getting used to. But once that was figured out, the engraver was extremely fun to make items with and I have been using it for making items to sell through my business. Product is certainly quality even when comparing to other top brands. I would recommend a cover as it will smoke up any room you are in. Around four months in, the engraver started acting up where the Y-Axis was not working properly. I was able to reach out directly to Longer, who talked me through the steps to solve the issue. It ultimately was the wire to the X- and Y-axes, to which they shipped a new wire. That was fairly easy to replace and I'm back up and running thanks to quick and knowledgeable customer service!

It's more about the nonexistent customer service than the hardware
This review is more about customer service than it is about the product itself. I'm sure this laser engraver has a potential to do excellent work. Unfortunately the one I got had issues- SEVERAL. I tried to troubleshoot them by going to the longer website as well as longer 10 W laser cutter forums none of the fixes that were recommended for my issues actually solved any problems that I had. I tried to contact customer service which they did get back to me, but I'm pretty sure I was dealing with AI (via email) because the reply just kept saying the same thing over and over even when I told them they're suggested fixes didn't work -ugh! after four days I got frustrated with it and returned it. You can sum up this entire review by just saying longer needs to do better with their customer service. It's very poor and when you need them and no one's there, it gets old after a while.

Great for first time laser user
Great product for beginner. Works great. Only complaint is directions for assembly were bad and didn’t give directions for startup. Had to YouTube directions. Lightweight but bigger than I expected.

This laser machine works great.
Ok, so most people write a review about the product and then babble on about the packaging and all sorts of other useless information. Here’s a review with some important information I wish someone would have told me when I bought it. So here we go: The laser itself works great. Assembly is easy. There’s plenty of YouTube videos that show step by step. It comes with all of the wrenches to assemble it. Watch the videos on YouTube, they’re invaluable. Here’s what I wish I knew…. Yes, it will engrave metal/mild steel, BUT you have to purchase a laser ink to spray on it first because the laser alone does not leave the black marks on bare steel. It etches it and you can feel it and even see it if the lighting is right, but it’s shiny. The laser ink gets sprayed on first and then the laser etches the steel AND burns the ink into the metal at the same time. The ink is $50 a can plus tax and shipping. And I already know what you’re thinking but let me stop you now…no, spray paint doesn’t work. I tried it. So, if you’re looking to etch metal, this puppy will do it, but at a cost. They sell 2oz. cans of ink and 12oz. cans. The 2oz can is about $25 ish but if you’re doing much at all, that ain’t gonna last long. So know that going into it. If you’re etching wood, you’re good to go. No special equipment or anything is needed to do wood. Although, if you are doing wood, it’s highly recommended that you also get the air assist to help avoid any fires and keep the lens from getting smoked up. I also went and bought an inexpensive HP laptop for $399 to run Lightburn software. It has 8 gigs of RAM and that is more than enough to run the software. The other big thing that I wish I knew is that this particular version of the Longer laser products DOES NOT work with their mobile app. They do have a laser that is compatible with their app, but the Longer Ray5 is not yet compatible. So know that going in. I bought it thinking I could run it from my iPhone….nope. With all that being said, I don’t regret the purchase one bit, I just wish I knew it was going to cost me a laptop and a $50 spray can of ink. May the odds be ever in your favor!
