I read some of the one star comments. This item is designed to be used with "Climbing Stands" like indicated on the packaging. You need a different set up for lock-ons and ladder stands. I have used this system for over a decade and it keeps you secured to the tree while ascending and descending in your 'climbing stand' (see product video). Very simple to use and and quiet. For example: step onto the platform of your climbing stand, connect harness to carabiner of the prusik knot, and adjust the rope attachment by sliding the prusik knot to meet the diameter of the tree as you climb or descend. Tip: I carry my system (prusik knot rope) in and out of the woods to limit any possible weather damage.

These ropes are awesome. I leave them in the tree all season. I always know that when I get to the top of my tree stand, I have a safety point to hook into that is sturdy strong, and with stands anything the weather throws at it.

So this is about a 7 or 8 foot piece of somewhat stiff climbing rope with a loop tied in one end and a prusik knot with carabiner on the other, with a knit at the opposite end to keep the prusik from sliding off. If you know what you're doing, you can use this at least three different ways. First, use as intended for a tree safety strap and wrap it around the tree, stuff the prusik through the loop, and hook it to your harness while in the stand. It works OK for this, although the loop is really a little too big and lets it slide down the tree so it doesn't stay up and tight as I'd prefer. Second, use it as a life line for shorter stands. Hook it to an existing tree strap using the loop and slide the prusik up and down as you ascend or descend the tree. This won't work for anything more than ten feet off the ground, but they sell a more expensive system that's just for this use that has a longer rope. Finally, you can hook the loop through your line man's belt or waist harness throw the strap around the tree, and hook your prusik to the other side of your line man's belt and use the stiff strap as a lineman strap or climbing strap. Works fantastic for this as you can use the prusik to slide in or out from the tree and work however you're comfortable. You absolutely can not assemble this system for the price they are offering. If I was making it myself, I'd make the knot tighter so it would stay in the tree better, but for the price you can't beat its versatility.

Excatly what I wanted! Awesome quality. I purchased a Summit climber but could not stand the seat belt material tree strap that came with it... it kept twisting when tightened & losened while climbing which was highly annoying, also it was much slower and it really pulled my face towards the tree as the back strap on the harness is not the longest for obvious reasons, -it really limited my movement. This safety rope is the solution to all of these issues being fixed, it is quiet, super fast and highly adjustable in length for what ever slack you feel comfortable with. Well worth the money, the carabiner hooks on to the harness quickly and in silence. Everything about this rope is great, I feel safe and free.
