Good buy to keep kids away from screens and kill time
We have been playing with it a little bit, solid product, especially for beginners and learners. Not a luxury level quality, but more than good enough for regular use.Training and match moldes are helpful, which has lights and signal showing where to move. Overall, pretty good for summer break to kill time, keeps kids away from screens.

Good and fun chess computer board
So far so good. The voice and lights make it very easy to know what piece to move for it and helps to setup of you're not sure about where the pieces go. The lights are helpful but do not really tell you if the move itself is good or bad, just if the piece will be safe or not. One negative is the lower levels make a number of nonsense moves that I've never seen a human make on chess.com. For example, it is eager to trade the queen, even for a pawn or it will move the king back and forth. I guess that with the reasonable moves it is more or less the elo level.

A few potential changes could make it better
Theres a few things that make this product a bit obtuse. First and foremost is when youre playing match mode, a bright blue light keeps flashing. Trying to concentrate, i have no idea why anyone thought this was a good idea.. Second off, the pieces (namely bishop and pawn) look too similar. With the modeling they use, a few times ive mistaken one for the other. Especially with glass pieces which are somewhat seethrough. Made a mistake? Sometimes the game makes a mistake for you and forces you to move to a spot you didnt want. Not in a check mate kind of way, but it somewhat glitches out. Happened to me twice in 4 games. You may think hitting the button that goes back to the previous move is the answer, but youd be wrong! Trying to use the back button is a nightmare. Constantly blurting the "err-err" as youve pressed a button that wont let you do what you want. As well, trying to choose a difficulty level is ridiculous. Instead of saying "level 1... level 2" which the manual tells you the ELO rating for those, or displaying highlighted squares for you to see "okay 3 squares, level 3" it kind of does this but level 10 youll have squares all over the board, sometimes under pieces. Its making choosing a level more difficult than it needs to be. The size is a bit big for carry. I get it, its a computer, so I cant complain there. But it feels like if I put it in my bag to take anywhere and its not in its way-too-oversized box then itll get crushed. Thats just the feel, mind you. It might actually be very sturdy. Unfortunately i reeaaally wanted to like this board but im having a hard time. On the plus side its a usb charging so theres that. And its a chess board so there's kudos. The board certainly will take you to 1700 ELO. The difficulty level is no joke! But its so uncomfortable to play that its just not great yet. The company did reply back to me and so I am updating the review. I appreciate food customer service and they definitely are prompt.

My child really loves this electronic chess board. It is very beginner-friendly and great for learning and training. The features are easy to understand, and my child can practice independently without constant help from adults. It makes learning chess more fun and engaging. Highly recommended for beginners and young learners.

(Updated) Strong chess computer with helpful features.
I purchased this as I already have a Chessnut Air board but wanted to not have to use my phone when playing and just wanted an offline experience. I’m enjoying this board so far! The computer is strong and I haven’t tried it at its highest levels yet. The illuminated squares are great for learning your potential moves and potential blunders. The take-back feature lets you go as far back as you’d like in a game. I will only likely be using train mode, match mode, and the puzzles in order to build up my middlegame and endgame. Castling and pawn promotion work well with this board and the set does include extra queens. If you accidentally knock a piece while moving another the computer will call say “move illegal” and the piece in question will remain illuminated until it is recentered on it’s square. There is a built-in rechargeable battery (Usb-C cable included) and I’ve played a bunch of games thus far and have not yet had to recharge it. Tip: I was a little confused on how to play as black against the AI, but after setting up the pieces (white still on the side of the main controls) you simply select the bidirectional arrow buttons and then the AI will make it’s move as white allowing you to play as black. UPDATE 9/25/25: I’ve had this chessboard for over a year now. It’s easy to use, lasts a ridiculously long time between charges, and the illuminated guidance for captures and optimal moves are very helpful for young learners. The higher levels are definitely challenging. I love that I can be in the middle of playing a game and turn off the unit to come back the following day and restart it and it continues the previous game. Also, I’ve seen a lot of variability in the openings that the computer uses which has been helpful in my trying new tactics. I love the fact that I can play without staring at my phone. Overall, I’ve been super satisfied with this purchase.

Perfect!
My child is a young chess player, and having an electronic chessboard like this has always been a dream for our family. We’ve been looking for something that could help with training, analyzing games, and practicing openings in a more interactive and engaging way — and this board truly exceeded our expectations.

Nice
This Vonset electronic chessboard performs quite well overall. In terms of quality, the board feels sturdy, and the transparent chess pieces are a nice touch, though they have a slight plastic feel. Still, it's worth the price. It's very easy to use, with clear button layouts and helpful LED indicators, making it beginner-friendly and great for learning or playing against the computer. As for value for money, it offers plenty of features at this price point, especially the teaching and hint functions, which are incredibly useful for beginners—it's like having a personal coach without the extra cost. The design is modern and sleek, with a blend of classic and innovative elements. It looks stylish and adds a nice touch to any space. The size is just right—compact enough for a table yet easy to store. Functionality-wise, it supports multiple difficulty levels, making it suitable for players of all skill levels, and the voice prompts and teaching features are very practical. Overall, this chessboard is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to improve their skills. It's fun, practical, and a great value, though the chess pieces' material could be slightly better. Still, at this price, it's an excellent deal!

Do Not Buy!
I really wanted to like this product. The reputation of the company and the product was good, however things did not go according to plan. First, the computer keeps saying certain moves are illegal when they are in fact legal. Example: It acknowledges the P-K4 opening move for the pawn, but any subsequent moves for pawns are only one space at a time. It is perfectly legal to move another pawn TWO SPACES if it is that pawns first move. Computer said this was illegal. I've played Chess for nearly 60 years. It's legal. Second, the instruction manual that accompanies the product is unnecessarily confusing. I could not get the level of play to change. I had a total of 4 other people try and none of us could get the level of play to increase or decrease, despite following the directions. Third, the chess pieces, though quite nice, have very similar looks. It's easy to confuse the King with the Queen for example. That one is relatively minor and in time could be overcome, but it is annoying. There is a lot right with this product. I did like the size of the board and the chess pieces (though some look too much alike). I know others who have gotten this same product and have had zero issues. They recommended this item to me. I wanted to use it to teach chess to my grandkids and to use the various chess levels to improve my game. However, this product will be returned. Oh, and speaking of the returns. I have to provide my own shipping box because the original shipping box was damaged in shipping, so thanks for that Amazon. I had examined the product for damage upon receipt, but it looked okay and the actual box containing the game was undamaged. The filler used in the larger box prevented further damage.
