The Witch's Shadow Work Oracle: 40 cards for wandering through the forest of your subconscious

I was initially attracted to the artwork on this deck. The artist has done the art on some of the Seasons of the Witch decks—decks which I find temptingly beautiful but not really useful for me. But this one is a different story! Yes, beautiful and evocative art, but also an interesting approach to archetype. I’m not particularly “witchy,” nor do I have a focused shadow practice. But this deck is offering me something else altogether. By presenting single archetypes (from nature, fairytale and myth, and family systems), the cards give a fresh focus to my readings. Others here have found the little book unsubstantial. For me, it provides just enough to jump off from. I’m not looking to my cards for answers, but for paths to travel on my quest. This set—cards and book—is an ally on the journey.

I pre-ordered this oracle deck months ago since I love the artwork of Tijana Lukovic and I have the whole Seasons of the Witch oracle series as well. Needless to say, I was very excited to receive this deck! 40 gorgeous glossy cards and lovely little guidebook with deep, comprehensive explanations of the cards. My only complaint is that I wish that the guidebook had full color pictures of the cards inside, instead of black and white. I can’t wait to use this deck, I’m sure it will teach me a lot! It kind of strikes me as a fall and winter deck since those are the seasons when we are more inclined to look deep within ourselves for answers.

I'll pretty much forever buy any deck by this illustrator. This one is perfect for shadowwork!

As a seasoned tarot/oracle reader, I had high hopes for this deck as I love the artist's work that she did with the Season of the Witch oracle series. Though the art is wonderful with this deck, the book is not. It doesn't make much sense on how it is set up. All cards are divided in different suits: the natural world, dream world, imagined world and invisible world. How and why the cards are divided in these ways I have no idea. Nothing makes sense. The author speaks to the reader as if you were a 12 year old. And much of it is based on fairy tales. I think younger people will find this helpful and enjoy the deck, but as a crone I can't relate with the tone of the book. I'll either give it away or return it.

I hate to say this but I'm so disappointed in this deck. I preordered it as it sounded terrific but the cards and guidebook don't live up to what's described. Honestly I'm confused as the description and deck don't really seem to match. I've done shadow work and studied Jungian psychology for decades and this deck just doesn't make sense to me. The cards seem very random and unrelated to each other. Everything seems sugar- coated, especially the practices. In addition the card stock isn't great and I don't understand why so many cards have completely white backgrounds. I'm sorry to say I wish I had passed on this one. Neither the quality or substance are there - in my opinion.

Gorgeous gothic-esque art and highly accurate readings with this one. This deck is deep and may take you for a deep Dove into your subconscious to uncover any hidden trauma that may be lurking under the surface. Honestly I wouldnt recommend this to someone who feels to fragile or unable to face trauma and the shadow side including repressed memories. Since using this deck I've literally had dreams of my childhood and uncovered things that im still trying to work through and its making me do alot of self discovery and making me question hidden trauma from my childhood.
