Ahmad Tea Black Tea, Ceylon Opa Loose Leaf, 454g - Caffeinated & Sugar-Free

Wow. This Ceylon OPA both really impressed me with its quality and provided a new tea drinking experience. OPA is the largest leaf size available from Shri Lanka and probably from most places most of the time. The dry leaf is HUGE, so big that 1 lbs of this tea doesn’t even fit in the Ahmad 1 lbs tins. This is possibly the largest leafed black tea I’ve had. The only thing close was a Keemun Mao fang, appropriate since some aspects of this tea, such as the fruity dry leaf scent, reminded me of Keemun. Ahmad says this brews a tea of light colour and flavour but that is only true for short steeps. Due to the large leaf the tea infuses rather slowly so I really recommend a longer steep. I like 6-9 minutes and this produces a dark, richly aromatic brew. The aroma is complex, fruity and somewhat malty. Dried fruit, particularly raisins, combined with a certain roastedness. Taken straight, the flavour is fruity, rich, and moderately strong. Although lighter than an Assam, the tea has a certain intensity to it. There is a pleasing light astringency and something of a tang in the finish, but overall the tea is quite smooth. It takes milk well, but not too much mind, resulting in a rich and velvety cuppa. I don’t usually sweeten Ceylon but I found this one took sugar remarkably well with milk. It also makes outstandingly refreshing cold brew iced tea. Overall I love this tea and always feel good after drinking it. That is true for me and most teas but it seemed particularly so with this one for some reason. I recommend this to all Ceylon fans and anyone who loves a quality black tea.

This has become my favorite tea. Long actual tea leaves; much better than the powder found in most tea bags. Great taste and color; brews into a great cuppa in 5 minutes. Packaging is very effective at keeping the tea fresh.

I wrote a review on another Ahmad tea, but this one deserves its share of praise. I purchased this because I was looking for a plain black tea for iced tea. I had this sent to me and once it arrived, I had to know......was it worth the money? I popped open the bag and took one smell, then one look and I knew I hit the bullseye with this tea. I dug out my big pan to steep it in and got to work. I was so happy to find a black tea with no fluff, but the taste test was my Iast test.,... I brewed it as directed on the Ahmed web site, and pulled out my favorite tea mug ( because everything is better in that ONE tea mug :)) And I poured it through the strainer into said mug....not even waiting for cream or sugar.....and BAM! the tea hit my taste buds and for a minute I think I checked out! It was what I have been looking for such a long time. You know how you go to a restaurant and have something, then spend your time searching for that same taste, flavor and response....well, that my friend is what this tea was for me. I will never buy crappy, grocery store tea dust bags again! I still don't know how I never knew about this brand of tea before.....but, like I said I. another loose tea review, I am from the land of hot beverages are a sin and therefore not to be partaken of (Utah). I'm just happy I found my new, sinful hot beverage BFF :)

I am quite the tea connoisseur and in all honesty this brand is one of the smoothest and best tasting teas I have purchased in a long time. The flavor is subtle, not too strong & not too faint. The price was very fair for such a high quality loose tea. I highly recommend ALL their different teas as I have purchased many different kinds & I have the same opinion on them all. A++ Ahmad 😊✅ PS: The tin container it came in is just beautiful and the tea is sealed in an elegant airtight gold foil pouch. I sound like I own or work for the company (which I do NOT) but I tend to be critical on tea, so when I found this particular brand and was so pleased I had to let people know my genuine opinion on it.

I have been ordering this tea for more than a year now. We are big tea drinkers and consider us a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to tea taste. This black tea has a wonderful aroma. We drink it every morning sometimes with cream sometimes without. So far I have more than 10 lb of it. The honey colored tea in your cup is a great tasting tea especially since it is offered for a reasonable price per pound. We used to order Ostfriesen tea from Germany but it is becoming rare to find and very price. This tea matches up to the Ostfriesen tea very well.

Best tea I ever bought !! I put the leaves in a French press and steep 7 minutes ! Love the flavor & the caffeine !! 10 out 10 Tea !!!

This might not be what a tea connoisseur would consider the fine product, but in my humble opinion this is the best large leaf Ceylon tea... if you are not looking to spend a fortune.

Decent big leaf tea. But I am shocked with the pricing. This was $8.99 CDN a couple of months back when I bought it. Now it's nearly tripled in price, going from very good value, to not worth buying.
