is this ok to use in saltwater

I use mine in Saltwater. A small modification is required. Unscrew the 4 screws & flip the cover over leave wires connected. Home depot/amazon sells Blaster Corrosion Stop Spray it on the terminals 2 coats. I've used the anchor winch 2 years in saltwater with no problems & no corrosion...

Can this be used with a chain attached to a river anchor?

I'm not sure what a river anchor is. I use mine in the Gulf of Mexico. My Anchor is connected to the lead chain & then to the 5mm cord. P.S. I found out in using the guide during retrieval the cord rides up the roller side & gets stuck between the roller & the metal bracket. This happened every time. I cured the problem with a short PVC tube mounted on the loop. Cut a hole in the side of the PVC large enough for the chain to pass through.

Can this unit be mounted under the deck of a pontoon boat?

Sir: To answer your question reference the above item being installed undeclared of Pontoon boat. How would you control the off/on switch? Suggest watch video listed below. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6mrdum4qk-k David

Do these come in even smaller capacities? I need a 12v winch to lift 3.5lb anchor max 50 feet.

I did not see a smaller one listed. I use mine in the Gulf of Mexico & have no problem retrieving 100 ' with chain & anchor.
