This was a birthday gift to 9 year old grand daughter. My daughter supervised the frying part. They said the churros turned out delicious and easy to make. The y divided mix into 2 batches.

My 13 year old son loved this gift. The instructions were easy to follow and the ingredients were high quality. (We did have to add a bit of extra water than the directions noted, but we figured it out.) The churros were so good - no different than the ones from a restaurant or food truck. The ones we didn't eat right away, my kids took ice fishing with their friends later that day and finished them all! You will need an adult to supervise with the hot oil.

Global Grub DIY Churro Kit sounds like a fun activity that will finish with delicious churros. The emphasis on sounds like a fun activity. After using this kit, it delivered a tasty finished product but for me it was not a traditional churro shape but rather I ended up with mini doughnut hole shapes in order to spare my sanity. The kit includes a bag of churro mix, cinnamon-sugar mix, chocolate powder to make a chocolate glaze, and pastry bag with a star tip. The instructions were simple - gradually add 1 1/2 cups boiling water to 2 cups of churro mix and combine until it has a consistency of thick peanut butter. I added the instructed 1 1/2 cups of boiling water and I had a dense, thick dough which was definitely thicker than thick peanut butter. I added more water gradually trying to meet the thick peanut butter description. I think this definition is too vague as my definition of thick peanut butter will most likely differ from the manufacturer or someone else attempting to make churros from this kit. Especially since I added all of the water and it was still too thick. I also was leery of making the dough too thick as it would be difficult to pipe or too thin as the churros may be doughy per the manufacturer. Once I finally got what I envisioned as thick peanut butter, I placed the dough into the enclosed pastry bag. This is when the wheels started to come off the wagon. I got the first churro partially out and then the tip shot into the oil and sank. Hot oil splashed up from this unexpected detachment and hit my hand. At this point, I was frustrated and thankfully not seriously injured. To spare my sanity, I made "churritos" also known as mini doughnuts. My family happily ate the little doughnuts and said they tasted good as they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When it comes to price, I feel it is high given the simple contents of this kit and especially after experiencing the flimsiness of the pastry bag which is the most crucial component of this kit and the potential serious burn I could have received from the tip falling out of the bag into hot oil. My advice to anyone buying this kit - DO NOT use the enclosed pastry bag. I would recommend either using a disposable Wilton pastry bag, a Ziplock bag cut in the corner, or if you are a serious baker and have a pastry bag among your baking tools then use that paired with the enclosed tip. Just don't use the bag as you can risk injury. Did the churros taste good? Yes, they did but the steps getting to the final product were frustrating and did not result in pretty looking churros. And this is coming from someone who has experience cooking in the kitchen but this was the first time making churros. After using this kit, I have a deeper respect and appreciation for the restaurant I buy churros from. I can safely say I am glad I tried this kit prior to gifting it to someone I love. Despite it providing the basics necessary to make churros - minus the water and oil, I will not be giving this kit as I would not want to ruin the delightfulness of churros for someone else by attempting to make them.
