France released, Blu-Ray/Region A/B/C DVD: LANGUAGES: French ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), French ( DTS-HD Master Audio ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Three workers in a social services office on Christmas Eve find themselves the center of a vortex of rag-tag humanity that all need their professional help, and more. Their visit from Santa Claus does not involve a trip down a chimney, but a walk-in by a somewhat derelict, irascible St. Nick hunting for the unfortunate Mrs. Nick, whose girth is wider than her husband's because she's carrying the future little Nick or Nicola -- she also has a sack, given that she is a bag lady, and she herself is in need of an orthodontist. This unusual couple is complemented by other characters in need of assistance, including a woefully abject transvestite and one character who no longer needs assistance because corpses are pretty much beyond help. Events conspire to bring everyone to the zoo, a fitting place for the cast of eccentrics, social workers not excluded. ...Santa Claus Is a Stinker (1982) ( Le père Noël est une ordure ) (Blu-Ray)

A merry christmas tale
This version of the movie was delivered on time and came with English subtitles I know a few people complained it didn't. This movie is French humour at it's best! A Christmas tale of sorts with characters you grow attached too...actually scrap that you laugh at these people and as for Christmas tale it's more of a farce a joyful witty farce if one ever existed this is it!! Recommend this movie....highly...

weird
This is a very popular cult film in France. But for an English audience it's weird.I think the only comparison is someone from France watching Little Britain and wondering why people laugh at Vicky Pollard saying yes, butno, but etc. The humour is in the observing the everyday. This observes class, and that subtlety that is lost on an English audience. (The subtlety of certain words, mannerisms, the vous/tu etc)I know some French friends can quote parts of the films and find it immensely funny. For me I just thought... hmmnn weird.

Alright but not great!
This was loaned to us on DVD by a friend and we got 45 mins in and the DVD refused to play further. Being intrigued, I ordered a copy for us so we could see the whole film. We love a bit of 'off the wall' comedy, especially when it's eccentrically French but this didn't really do it for us. It's not a bad film and there are devotees out there who love every minute but we found it over-long and a bit short on laughs especially in the second half. There are some stand-out funny moments (particularly the lady in the broken lift using a child's tool kit to try and fix it) but it doesn't quite hang together. If you're after something funny and French, other than the classics (Tati, et al) try "Bievenue Chez Les Ch'tis".

works
I bought this unsure it would play on my US blue ray player, but it does and the image quality is excellent.I'm not getting any subtitles even though I have them select as on and English. But you really need to be French to get the humor of this movie. One of my all time favorites.I want to edit what I first said. It does have English subtitles and I found them.

Inimittables..
