i bought a used X5 (F15) and the "auto" knob on the rear climate system was missing. I ordered this part and 4 pieces are included in the small box. 1) an auto cap for the left side 2) a solid black cap for the right side 3) the silver trim piece ring and 4 the black rubber piece that goes between the silver trim piece and the climate system post. There are NO instructions in the box, so hopefully this gives you some guidance. Step 1: slip the black rubber ring onto the silver trim piece. Look at the other climate knobs in your car, they are pretty much all the same. This step cant really be messed up, but the smooth side of the rubber ring goes against the silver trim piece. Step 2: the black rubber ring has different sized tabs on the non smooth side that need to be lined up correctly on the climate system post. If you rotate the post and look inside, you will see 2 large gaps and one narrow gap around the inside edge. You need to get the 2 large gap parts of the rubber ring to go into the 2 large gap parts on the post knob. The grooves that surround the outer side of the rubber ring will give you some fine tuning guidance. Step 3): once the above is lined up, using gentle/gentle+ force the knob should snap into place. Rotate it a few times to make sure all is good. Then add the cap you need for your situation. I needed the left side, which is the "auto" cap, so once again, line it up with the green light that is mounted to the climate system and push it into place. from start to finish it about 3 minutes to figure it out as there are no instructions in the box.

The knobs on the back seat air conditioning unit of my X5 broke off a few years ago, so I checked with the dealer about getting them replaced. They don’t sell the knobs so you would need to replace the entire unit at a cost of over $1000. For that much money, I was willing to live with it. Per the description of this product, you need the series. Google the year and the model and you can find the “model code” to make sure you order the correct knobs. As an example, a 2017 X5 is either a model code “F15” or “M F85”. I found this info on bimmer-tech.net. The knobs fit perfectly…BUT it did take some doing to figure out as there are no instructions. The kit comes with a black o-ring of sorts. 1) Start with this. There are three “prongs”, one slightly more narrow than the others. This narrow prong goes into the small area offset by a metal piece (if it were a clock, at about 1:30). 2) Once you have that in, put on the silver piece. It also has three prongs that are all the same shape. These prongs are at about 12:00, 4:00 and 8:00. Push it in until it clicks. 3) Then snap in the black button. Good luck.

Took about 10 seconds to pop these into place… very affordable and looks just like OEM!

Replaced a broken climate control knob on a 2016 X5. Product was a perfect match for the original. Very easy to install.
