Mushroom House Dried Wild Forest Blend, 16 Oz

Good dried mushroom blend. I could probably live without the elf ear ones or whatever they are called. They cook just like any other dried mushroom. The texture will never be like fresh so don’t expect that! Good flavor.

Super cost effective, huge bag, delicious texture. I add it to everything I eat every day.

These come flexible in the bag. To me this means not fully dried. But an hour in the oven at a low temp made them dry enough to snap instead of bend. The fully dried mushrooms rehydrate very well, but the flexible ones did not do so well. There is a good amount of Wood Ear mushrooms that do grow in the woods, but not here in the Pacific NorthWest. These are marked as grown in China. Even though these were not fully dried on receipt, there was no sign or scent of mold, or any other disagreeable odor of any kind. For use in cooking, after I dried them thoroughly, I used a mortar and pestle and broke them into much smaller pieces. I do this because I want the flavor of the mushrooms, not necessarily the shape. I use these largely for mushroom gravy, which I make often, the flavor is quite good.

Good mixture of mushrooms. I like to grab a handful and rinse in a colander under a spray of hot water and then throw into a stir fry or an Instapot veg stew mix. They also work good for big omelettes with lots of eggs, onions, jalopeno peppers, veggie fake meat crumbles, and spices. It is surprising how even a big package like this gets used up.

I was not impressed with this product. The packaging was fine, but the mushrooms have an odd flavor that I have not experienced before with other muchrooms. Some, if not most refuse of the ieces to soften. Even after boiling and long soaking they remain rubbery and dificult to cut, tear, or chew.
