Outdoor lighting can really take a deck to the next level, but a lot of the options out there are really pricey! These little flush mount lights are really quite economical compared to many of the competing products. They're bright, super energy efficient, and really easy to wire up. Just drill the mounting holes (a 1" hole looks to be the perfect size to fit these lights into), pop in the light and connect the wires that link the lights to each other and to the LED driver/power supply. Then plug the power supply into an outlet. Of course, this assumes that you have a power outlet near where you want to install the lights (this has about a 6' cord from the power supply). And that power outlet will need to be connected to a switch or you'll need to come up with your own solution to either turn the lights on/off according to a schedule or add some sort of darkness sensor, since it would sort of look weird to have these on in the middle of the day.Are they the most durable option out there? Only time will tell, but at this price point, you can't expect too much; they're not super heavy duty, but they look to be well-sealed against the elements.If I had to critique, I'd say that the lights maybe are even a little too bright, depending on where you plan on using them. Staring straight into the light (like you would if you mount them in stair risers and you're walking up the stairs), they are definitely bright. A dimmer option or a little bit of a glare shield would be a nice option. They aren't sold as dimmable, but I may experiment with replacing the factory-supplied LED driver with a dimmable version to see if that will work.Keep in mind you only have a little over 3' of wire between the individual lights and there's no easy way to extend that distance (at least without cutting, splicing and re-insulating the wires), so plan your layout accordingly. It's also perhaps not the best solution for a large installation or truly custom setup, since you will need multiple LED drivers if you exceed 16 lights or want to be able to hide the wiring better. The connectors between the lights are great for the average DIYer--you can't mess them up, and they should hold up to the weather--but as a consequence, it would be harder to hide the wires and connectors for a hidden install.It would be nice if the manufacturer offered a longer power cord for the driver/power supply and also offered a version with a built-in light sensor to turn these lights on/off automatically when it gets dark. Of course that would cost more money...That said, for an average deck where the backside of the stairs (or wherever else you want to mount these) isn't visible, this is a good cost-effective way of adding that pop of light, and with the prevalence of inexpensive smart outlets, most homeowners will be able to come up with a solution that works well for their needs.

I bought this pack, along with the 20 pack, which included the timer and dimming function. I bought extra in case they burn out or the supplier goes belly up. I used a 1 inch drill bit and they fit perfectly.

As a custom home builder, we use these to mount in the soffit to shine light down our front columns. They are easy to install and look great. We have been using these for years and have never had any of them go out on us.

I ordered this deck light kit with the hopes of installing it on the stairs and forward facing base of our deck. There's currently three feet of snow covering everything, so this will be a spring/ summer job!The light kit arrived in a very nice/ giftable box, and includes 16 lights, power supply, small bag with screws, and a REALLY basic instruction manual. One word of note- if frustration-free packaging is important to you, this kit is NOT that! Each of the lights have been inserted into their own little hole in the cardboard insert, and the only way to remove them is to cut/ tear the cardboard box apart to free each light.The quality of the kit seems to be very good. Each light has a male and a female connector, so you can daisy chain together only as many lights as you require. The lights require a 24mm (0.96") hole to mount them, and since all the wires run behind the lights, access to the area behind the mounting surface is necessary. Each light can be spaced about 3.25 feet apart (or less), so that could limit installation ideas. A very handy inclusion to this kit would be an extra section of cable- maybe 6 feet or so, that would allow you to expand the light installation area (in my case, to span the gap between the stairs over to the side of the deck). The lights produce a fair amount of brightness, but are not overly bright or dazzling to look at.Overall, I'm really pleased with this light kit. I think it will work just about perfectly for my application.

This set is a big improvement from the set I purchased 10 years ago. These are smaller, brighter, and there appears to be more attention to waterproofing.While this set has many lights it does not have a means to turn them on and off. Nothing wrong with that as you can simply plug this into an outlet controled by a wall switch, a D-to-D sensor, or a timer. Understand these cannot be added to a landscape timer as the lights are 12v DC and landscape timers are 12v AC.These lights can be installed both vertically and horizontally but they are designed to be installed into the risers on the stairs of a wood deck. If installed on the decks surface they can be subjected to prolonged moisture which could eventually compromise the fixture. In the event one light stops working they can be easily replaced so I recommend you buy a few extras because the LED is not replaceable. The transformer is rated for 1.5 amps (16 lights max) and can be plugged into an outdoor outlet but it should not be allowed to get wet.As I mentioned I installed a few dozen of these years ago and while a few have dimmed and/or died many remain working. I happen to have extras so I was able to replace them without any trouble.Cheers
