Yes it composts down quite quickly and I recommend it for that.We use it for our two rabbits so get through quite a lot. We put all the newspaper, litter, hay and droppings into the composter and it turns into good compost in a few months.

Is this good for rats?

Yes it says on the pack that it is suitable for a variety of animals such as rabbits,snakes,rats and mice etc as it is made from recycled paper- hope this helps
