This is the best holder ever hands down. It's the only one I ever found that sticks securely on my dashboard which is not perfectly flat. The design lets it hold extra large units like my Garmin with no problem. All of the holders I've seen with the spring tension clamps on each side only seem to hold a cell phone. The ones I tried to stick to the windshield don't last long. I'm in south Florida so it's 90+ in the summer. I bought this same holder in Dec 2019 and just now replacing after 4 1/2 years (finally came loose from the intense heat). I'm so glad I can still get another :-)

This has a fairly strong spring clamp, so be careful with your hands. The good news is that it holds your device securely, whether phone or GPS. i like it a lot. Well designed, elegant solution, good looks, and good functionality. It keeps the sun from heating your device on dashboard and shading it for easy reading - this is a huge plus! Easy to mount it. Many states do not allow you to mount phone or GPS on your windshield (CA is one). So you should mount them on dashboard. Enter the clamshell mount. Problem solved. Also, the windshield is very hot with the sun beating down and overheating your poor device. This is what broke my GPS ring mount - it cracked with heat over time. Definitely get this. So very functional!

Holds a large GPS unit well, but be aware the bottom isn't completely flat, there's a circular sticky area that extends slightly to attach to the dash. I originally planned to just set it on a grip mat when needed so I wouldn't have to stick anything on the dash, but that didn't pan out with the slightly raised area.

Works very well . I am using it with my iPhone and it works great. It is well constructed and looks great. All in all, a very good product.

Easy to install and allows you to view the road ahead well as keeping an eye on the speedometer. ALso holds most cell phones and most GPS units. No suction cup marks on windshield to alert "Thieves". Take your phone with you in pocket or purse or put GPS unit in the trunk. Folds down flat on dashboard and has a LOW Profile when closed. It is spring loaded to hold a phone or GPS. A little pricey compared to a suction cup but is easier to view and reminds you to remove your phone or GPS when you stop. It is a win-win for any traveler who uses map quest or google maps or regular GPS. Most people can take their GPS in their home and plan a trip by entering the address and vary their route as desired. I would still keep my GPS in a dedicated "Bag" in the trunk or elsewhere in an SUV and not in the console.

The clam shell holds my GPS quite well, with one big problem. The dash board of our car slopes towards the windshield which causes the screen of the GPS to be tipped up towards the windshield. This cause an unacceptable amount of glare on the GPS screen. Even a flat dashboard would have this problem. I temporarily solved this problem by making a visor that fits into the clamshell and hangs over the front of the GPS. At some point, I'll pull the clamshell off, clean off the double sided tape and make an wedge for the clamshell to mount to my dash board. It will have to be enough so the the GPS screen points slightly downward when viewing from the drivers seat. It may be more trouble than it's worth, but I plan on making a wedge out of wood, once side flat to mount the clamshell, one side contoured to the shape of my dashboard and both attached with velcro strips rather than double sided tape.

IT ACTUALLY WORKS,VERY STICKY, HOLDS DASH VERY WELL,AND IS OUT OF WAY.ADJ POITION ANY WHERE. DEFINITELY MUST HAVE. GREAT FOR SPACE SAVING.

The best of the best of the best. I was SO SICK of fighting with the GPS on my phone and/or the built in GPS (Tom Tom) on my Subaru that I decided to go back to my very first GPS (which I sold at a garage sale years ago) and get a Garmin. I knew they were easy to use, reliable and had more features than I needed. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS THING AND FEEL SO MUCH SAFE DRIVING WITH IT. Garmin is awesome. I would never consider any other brand of GPS.

I used Velcro to adhere the base to the dash carpet. No more suction caps falling off the windshield

I misplaced my windshield suction holder that came with the Garmin GPS a long time ago. 1. it was a pain to even try to reach it because it was so far up the dash and 2. it was too hard to try and lay the GPS down or hold it so you could use it to navigate. This new clam shell style holder is just great! It is solid. It holds the GPS firmly while allowing full access to the touch screen. And you can stick it where you want, up close so you can see it and use the touch screen as much as you need to. And you can position it so your copilot can interact with it too. I don't know why it took me so long to research and see that this thing was available. Awesome holder!

I dont use gps devices but do use google maps. This holds my phone on my dash board in a spot that is doesnt obstruct my view.
