I think it's a combination of metal and plastic.

How big is the batmobile itself?

It's about 3" -3 1/2" long. Longer and wider than a standard HotWheels car, but not as big as a 1/43/"O" scale such as a Corgi. All of this series are a bit larger. The 1989 feels slightly overscale to the others as well.

Why are the headlights silver? They’re supposed to be orange.. or gold.

I purchased this for our grandson as a gift and briefly looked it over! I too noticed that the lights were not amber like the original! I am sure whoever manufactured this isn’t a diehard Batmobile/Batman fan! According to the video on the building of this machine, they used headlights from a Honda and turned them upside down! When Burton seen it lit up on the vehicle for the first time he wanted them painted amber to not blind the camera at head on shots!! There you have it!!
