Great design and looks very nice in my kitchen.

Due to the way Amazon groups reviews for the same product that maybe shipped from different sellers I want to be clear that I purchased from Dawsons Department Store in the UK via Amazon.co.uk. The reason I mention this is that some of the reviewers who gave negative feedback may well have received fake or reconditioned products, because their issues don't seem to make sense if you buy an original NEW SMEG kettle. My new red SMEG kettle arrived in good time. The letters are raised letters. The brand 'SMEG' emblazoned on the kettle are solid and look as if they will not fall off (not printed letters like some of the reviewers have described based on their purchase). Also the lid being plastic makes sense, otherwise you could burn yourself, so I'm happy it's made of good quality solid plastic. Further, the list has a rubber seal preventing steam and/or water leaking out when you poor water out of the spout. The main kettle body is metal and painted and does get hot, so be aware of this point. Having said that, the head is no different to other kettles out there on the market. I read a couple of reviewers have blistering paint, but I've not seen this porblem (yet). Time will tell I guess. Overall, I really like this kettle. Yes it's expensive, and yes some parts are plastic, but it's all solid and well made based on first impressions. I purchased this product ignoring all the negative reviews in the knowledge that had they been right, then I could always return the product for a refund. So far I'm not expecting to be one of those disappointed customers. Your mileage may vary.

The best money can buy.

This Smeg Kettle has a wonderful design; however, it has turned out to be a safety hazard. Late last night, while boiling water with the kettle for a night cup, it started leaking from the bottom, and water seeped directly into the electrics, creating a dangerous combination of water and electricity. Thankfully, my electrical system tripped, helping prevent further danger by cutting off power, but it’s still a serious safety hazard. Fortunately, I was unharmed, but this situation absolutely highlights a major risk with this product. The issue was clearly not small, as it was impossible to bring back on the kitchen sockets that tripped at the main electrical panel, leaving me without power for all my kitchen sockets and most of my kitchen appliances. My boiler—which provides heating and hot water—stopped working, along with my washing machine, dishwasher (which stopped mid-cycle and remained full of water), extraction hood, and all the kitchen sockets. My flat was left without heating, hot water, and with a dishwasher full of water all night. Early this morning, the electrician I emailed last night intervened to assess what the issue was. He confirmed that the Smeg kettle was faulty and caused the problems I was experiencing. I am grateful that I did not receive an electric shock myself! This has been an incredibly stressful ordeal, and I urge Smeg to address such serious safety concerns, which I have noticed have been reported by other customers in their reviews. A kettle that leaks water into its electrical components poses a significant hazard. I hope my experience helps warn others.

Nice retro design. Smooth lid operation. Only downside for me is it’s 2 cup minimum boil.

Much quieter than my previous kettle and such a fab colour pop in the kitchen. Excellent capacity. The spout doesn't dribble or spit boiling water at you...wonderfully tranquil sound as it pours! If I had to pick something out it would be that the chrome coloured handled and especially the base, look a bit plasticy. Great kettle though UPDATE May2020; as the kettle boils, steam travels down the handle. Needed oven gloves to pick it up as hot steam coming out. If you wait for the steam to stop, the water is off the boil...not ideal for tea-making. Contacted the Seller who was brilliant and got it replaced. However, same happened again. The brilliant Seller replaced it yet again; couldn't fault their CS in any way. However, the issue of steam down the handle is the same. I'm assuming therefore it's a build issue. Have tried a hack by placing a bumper made of Sugru in the crease where the handle connects to the body of the kettle. Still a problem so will add another 'bumper' alongside the first to see if that helps. Wouldn't want this model if you've got youngsters/elderly or you have arthritis or other disability. Shame...handsome kettle

This is the best kettle I have ever brought, it's just so brilliant made,I brought the red one,And I must say it's one of the quitest kettle I have had. Iam so pleased.

Epic kettle. Looks excellent and boils in the blink of an eye with hardly any noise. This is quality I don’t mind paying for.
