I moved after i had one for 20 years. Just mulch the roots.

It's up to your preference, I don't use one and it does great in ground.

Would these do well in containers on a 7b patio?

We're in zone 8b and have planted these in containers with no problem. This is a beautiful plant! I got mine last year and wish I had bought 2!
