. Review: An early winner - Paul Simon's music is unbeatable. An early winner. Review: Rhymin Simon a great album. - This is a great second album from Paul Simon ( sort of ! if you ignore the stuff he made with his friend ). Not quite as strong as his first solo album but in a way it flows better as a complete album. As usual he knows how to write lovely flowing melodies, some being quite exquisite. I would imagine that if you know him and have any other discs by him you will know what you will be getting. In short if you like him you really need this in your collection. You may only play it once or twice a year, but when you put in on nothing else could ever take it's place. Beautiful music.

Great rockin' cd
I love his "One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor" and "Love's Me Like a Rock". But all of the songs are great. One of my all-time favorites CD's to listen too. If you want to see how good your stereo sounds play "Love's Me Like a Rock". In fact, when I had the vinyl my local stereo shop (Villa Stereo) played this on the Dual Turntable, Marantz Amp and Bose 901's. Sounded amazing - but then againt that was the 70's. This is the album that brings in the Brothers Black Mambazo (sp?) into the mix. You can't help but move around listening to this.

Ah! There it is!
Exactly as described, packed nice and tight and only a little late due to a shipping problem. But as usual, Amazon makes it all better. Thanks Amazon. You are good people.

Easy listening Folk Rock, But listening means there will be things to get you thinking.
Paul Simon may be, as other’s claim, America’s Troubadour. Since the 1960’s he has been mine. I do not believe he has ever sung directly to me, but his lyrics often speak to me. His lyrics have been the turn to poetry of my moods. There Goes Rhymin’ Simon is new to my effort to collect’em all and is a happy addition. The number of us who can even guess what Kodachrome was may dwindle. But too many of us also think back on all the carp learned in High School. Making this song an anthem to too many of us. To many of us males anyway. In fact much of this CD is male oriented. But then Paul by this time was working alone and he never pretended to sing from any other POV. The happy sad Take Me to the Mardi Gras catches the wistful spirit that lurks under every party, never mind how outrageous Mardi Gras is. The musical spirit if this collection is folk rock. These are mostly mellow and loving ballads at home in apartment houses and family bed time. There is enough jazz to keep it lively and always the threat of a bite. St Judy’s Comet may be just right as a lullaby, but there is something beyond the words in: It was a Sunny Day. There are important lessons in One Man’s Ceiling (is Another Man’s Floor) and in Learn how to Fall. Something so Right and Let me Live in Your City are likely songs for a new bride’s first dance. Tenderness however is too complex for all its simplicity. There Goes Rhymin’ Simon is not his most polished or his most sophisticated. It is good listening rewarding the listener with reasons to pay attention.

A masterpiece by a true pop music master.
Paul Simon is an icon. With Art Garfunkel and without him, he's responsible for some of the most substantial pop music of the latter half of the 20th century. But I consider this album his best. The song American Tune is even more meaningful now than ever while "Loves Me Like Rock" is just pure joy. Lyrics such as these from "Tenderness": "Honesty, it's such a waste of energy. No, you don't have to lie to me, just give me some tenderness beneath your honesty" is as wise as anything appearing in pop music and the build up at the end of Take Me to the Mardi Gras (similar in effect to that at the end of Janis Joplin's "Me and Bobby McGee") is masterful. For my money, this is one of the 25 best albums of all time.

If you don’t know & LOVE this album, something is wrong...
PAUL SIMON is a GEEENIUS! Best album ever, unless it’s GRACELAND or any of his others. I can’t say that he thinks outside the box, cuz there is no box... Thanks for diligently learning & practicing your craft & art so that I can enjoy this. Funnny guy, beautiful lyric soft voice! Poetic writing, lush melodies & such creative chord substitutions. Arrangements, production, musicianship- perfect. Tasty. Geeze. What does he NOT do well!? Maybe he can’t cook.

BUY IT
when I first herd the song American Tune I was in shock , how could someone have read my mind and put it to music . I now carry the words to this song in my wallet as a message to have it played at my funeral , not that I am planning on that to happen. Paul simon has a gift of taking our most personal thoughts and letting us know that we are not alone in those thoughts. While I bought the cd for this song only and feel the rest pale in comparason others will find a song that means as much to them as this to me. Paul Simon is a writer whos songs will play on long after he is gone because he has the ability to capture the raw human emotion and put it to music. If you listen to his songs you will never feel alone.
