Everything you love about THE HUNGER GAMES began here. The prequel to the beloved franchise reveals the story of how the boy (Snow) became the ruler we have come to know. Young Snow is assigned to mentor a young girl tribute from impoverished District 12. Our reintroduction to the lush world of the Capitol is juxtaposed against the 10th annual Hunger Games. The diverse young cast shines as they challenge the powers that be to reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake. Review: TO ENTERTAIN AND CONTROL - With the prequel to the popular Hunger-Games series of 2012-15 due for release I did rewatch the 4-movies recently and in truth enjoyed them more than I had when first viewing watching over a 3-4 year spell. Subsequently looking forward to the Songbirds and Snakes release. The film I did actually find more enjoyable than the original movies, there was indeed more action during the Hunger-Game battles, somewhat more violent I have to say (must admit the censors seem to be turning a blind-eye when putting an age guidance on the films ?) In this we see young Coriolanus "Coryo" Snow (Tom Blyth) an ambitious 'acadamy-student' being given the task of 'mentor' to Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) ffrom district '12' in the 10th Hunger-Game contest. Young Coriolanus is soon attracted to Lucy who's songs seem to have meaning. The games, unlike in the 4-movie series are conducted within a dome (a fairly small area) When the dome is attacked by rebels killing both competitors and indeed mentors, Lucy rescues Coriolanus who had shown her kindness. As the story develops the two indeed get together, however ambition will interere with a future together. A well crafted prequel which has perhaps too many songs, but well worth a watch. Good 4k viewing. ๎ Review: A worthy prequel, and the X-Ray extras are actually worth it - If you are debating whether to get this specific "Bonus X-Ray Edition" or just watch the standard version, here is the breakdown. The movie itself is a solid return to Panem, but the value of this edition depends entirely on how much you care about behind-the-scenes production. The Movie: Tom Blyth is fantastic as a young Coriolanus Snow. Watching his slow, subtle descent from a desperate student to the villain we know is genuinely compelling. The "retro" aesthetic of the 10th Hunger Gamesโwhich is gritty, industrial, and far less high-tech than the Jennifer Lawrence moviesโis a refreshing visual change. It feels more like a gladiator match than a sci-fi spectacle. Warning: The pacing is a bit odd. The first two-thirds are gripping, but the final act (set in the districts) feels simultaneously rushed and too long. It tries to cram a lot of book content into the last 45 minutes. The "Bonus X-Ray" Features: This is where this edition shines for fans. The Documentary: This edition typically includes the massive Predator or Prey making-of documentary (check the "Bonus Content" tab in the X-Ray menu). It is incredibly detailed, covering the casting, the stunts, and the music. Itโs not just fluff; itโs a deep dive. Trivia: If you are a lore nerd, having the X-Ray trivia pop up during scenes is great. It explains connections to Katnissโs era that you might miss otherwise (like the origins of the "Hanging Tree" song or family names). The Honest Critique: Navigation Issues: desertcartโs interface can make finding the actual "Bonus" videos tricky. They are often hidden inside the "X-Ray" overlay (pause the movie -> click 'View All' or 'Bonus Content') rather than sitting plainly in a menu like a DVD. No Jennifer Lawrence: It sounds obvious, but casual viewers should know this is a prequel. If you are expecting the high-octane action of Catching Fire, this is a much slower, character-driven drama. Verdict: If you are just a casual viewer, the standard rental is fine. But if you are a Hunger Games fan who loves lore and production details, the Bonus X-Ray Edition is 100% worth the purchase just for the documentary and on-screen trivia. Tip for accessing the features: To see the bonus videos, pause the movie while playing, click "X-Ray" or "View All" in the top left (or swipe up on mobile), and look for the tab labeled Bonus Content. They don't usually appear on the main "play" screen!

So much potential.. so much lost..
I'd like to say the first half of this film is really good, But the second is really bad.. With the story of Snow they could have done SO MUCH.. I even had ideas in my head what would happen in the end but it was nothing like expected! Not in a good way.. in a bad way.. The sequels don't really make sense with him wearing the white rose because of how the second half of this film turned out.. Obviously everyone knows that Snow is the way he is in the sequels but, how he became that, from a very kind and friendly person.. the first half illustrates this well but the second half doesn't make sense all. It's just senseless betrayal. With how close the relationships are and how kind he is, it just doesn't make sense for him to do that.. It doesn't make sense for his partner to do what she did either, They were deeply in love, They saved each others lives. With an ending like that, It doesn't make sense why he'd wear a white rose for her.. Because it was bitter. She tried to kill him. Then in return he tries to kill her, Senselessly. He also betrays his friend, Senselessly, Despite doing well in the military and going to good places to get a high earning for his family. Like really.. It could have been so much better. Why did they laze off with the second half??~ The whole military saga was just a mess.. This film needs to be remade with a better second half. Oh and, They never explain why he has a problem with his mouth, Like some sort of mouth infection due to ingesting some poison? Constantly bleeding in the sequels (the original hunger games) We see nothing of after he becomes so successful.. missing so much. And with how much he was kind from the beginning, Someone would like that would take alot more to compromise or break on their morals.. He just turns his back on all that randomly. It makes no sense. Shaved head = Downhill from there.
