I recently picked up How Economics Works as I wanted to improve my understanding of economics in a simple, accessible way. Overall, I’m really impressed with how the book is structured and how it uses visuals to explain complex concepts. It’s part of the DK "How Stuff Works" series, and that’s a huge plus since I’ve always appreciated how they make information easy to digest with diagrams, charts, and engaging layouts. The book covers a wide range of topics, from micro and macroeconomics to trade and finance. I particularly liked the fact that the chapters are broken down into manageable, bite-sized pieces—each spread focuses on a specific concept, which makes it feel like a series of mini-lessons. The visuals—charts, graphs, and illustrations—do a great job of complementing the text and help make things clearer. While the book is an excellent beginner’s guide to economics, I do think it could benefit from more examples to better illustrate some of the more abstract concepts. Some of the explanations could be more in-depth, especially for readers who might want to dive deeper into certain topics. Still, for anyone looking for a well-organized and visually engaging overview of economics, this book is a fantastic resource. I’d recommend it to those who are new to economics or looking to refresh their knowledge. It's a solid foundation and a great starting point, but if you’re after an academic-level textbook, this might not be deep enough. Overall, it’s a fun and informative read that I will definitely keep as a reference.

This is a great way to learn basic fundamentals of economics or as a reference book to have on hand for a economics class! Every of pages describes an economics concept, well organized from defining Economics and building on the topic as you turn each page. It is separated into sections: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Schools of Thought, International Trade and Finance. The sections build upon themselves as you progress in the book, with every concept referred to on the page referenced to the corresponding page in the book that discusses the topic. I love how the pages are laid out. Each set of pages is filled with great information and colored pictures, graphs, tables and quotes to explained the topic. It is very easy to understand and the examples used are relatable and understandable. It is enjoyable to read, I personally love books with charts and pictures, it just makes them more fun to read, and this is a great book to use to understand economics if you are looking for something quick and easy that doesn't feel boring or hard to read. I like the book, I love the way it is presented and I have enjoyed using it to learn more about economics and the terms so I can better understand what I am hearing in the news. ⭐️ 1 star - I don't recommend it at all. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, poorly written or bad information. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - Good Book. Not for me. Not the most well written. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Very good book quite, I would recommend and well written. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Book that I totally recommend and could not put down. Well written and a book I would read again

I haven't taken an Economics class since my freshman year of college, a few decades ago, so I am admittedly rusty on many concepts that keep coming up in the news lately in the United States. "The Economy" was one of the biggest issues in our most recent election, and continues to be a point of discussion and contention for the public, even when it isn't directly tied to our professions. Since having the DK Eyewitness books around the house when I was a kid, I have learned to count on their books for very visual presentation of information, in easy-to-digest, short articles, and this book holds to that standard. In larger sections on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Economic Theories, Trade, and Personal Finance, there are shorter two-page articles on important topics, with charts, statistics, and even helpful definitions. Thanks to an index in the back, I can look up the topics on which I need clarification; the book doesn't have to be read front-to-back, or in any particular order. And there are pictures! This feels like a high school textbook for grownups, and honestly, I need the refresher and appreciate the short chunks of information.
