Good Discipline, Great Teens

Dr. Ray Guarendi uses his trademark humor sprinkled with a little sarcasm to give those of us who are barely treading water trying to raise our teens good, sound, logical advice. The book is in question and answer format and this reader found many questions in the book to be those on the very tip of my tongue. My teens, when they saw me reading the book, said "Oh no! Dr. Ray! We're going down!" all in good fun because even they respect Dr. Ray and have never had any luck in refuting any of his reasoning (though they have tried and tried). The best part about this book is Dr. Ray's reinforcement of the necessity of discipline throughout the teen years and his consistent reminder that parents should not feel guilty maintaining authority in the home during these years even when doing so feels like a continuous struggle. He is also the master of helping us keep our senses of humor throughout the entire process. The only thing better than reading Dr. Ray's book would be to have him move in and raise my teens for me.

If you like the author Raymond G. then you are going to enjoy this book, I started reading it on my own but I want my husband to read it with me so we can be on the "same page" (pun intended) regarding our discipline. I would most certainly recommend.

This is a great book by Dr. Ray. I have employed some of his suggestions with my 13-year old already I just have to do it consistently. Dr. Ray is a great voice against the "whatever" and indulgent mentality of not only teens these days but unfortunately many parents as well. The teens wouldn't be that way if the parents weren't. My daughter's teen years have just begun and intend to employ Dr. Ray's tactics as often as is necessary. He is tough but also fair and loving in his approach.

This book is written in a question and answer format so it is like Dr. Ray's radio show, but in book form. I haven't gotten very far in reading this, but I've already gleaned a few tips in dealing with my teens. If you like Dr. Ray, then you'll like this book. It's an easy read without a lot of high-falutin' "shrink" (as Dr. Ray refers to himself as on the radio show)talk. This book contains down-to-earth, common-sense suggestions on how to discipline your teens so that you will end up with great teens!

This book was used as a study book for parents with various ages of children, from 6 - 22. Very useful, supportive of good discipline, a reminder of what is most important - the long-range formation of the child, not the desires of the moment.

Excellent book from an author who has much experience being a parent. I like this book because the author goes against mainstream media influences and uses moral and parental authority in an easy to understand and humorous way. A good book to reference back to at any time.

I liked the examples and the overall suggestions on how to deal with different situations.The book helped me see things from the teen's perspective. It reinforced that consistent discipline is the key to help children/teens improve their behavior.

Dr. Ray has a boatload of common sense and is able to impart advice with a great deal of humor. A must for raising today's teenagers.
