KSEIBI 143015 Long Reach Cut and Hold Bypass Pruner Max Cutting 5/16 inch (5.0 ft - 1.5 m)

I have some hardy Kiwi plants growing on a pergola over my deck. They send up lots of canes and need to be pruned at least 3 times a year. Getting a ladder out and having to move it around to reach all of them was a real pain. With this device, I can reach much more from one spot and it saves me a bunch of time. The power for the device is good for cutting the soft canes, but as the description indicates, it can't handle anything hard or beyond 5/16 thickness. The trigger mechanism has too much flex in it and you can't get enough power to the jaws to close it. Since this is noted in the capabilities of this pruner, I'm not taking any stars off from it. The gripper to hold the branch that you just cut off is nice, though it does make you pay attention to the orientation of the jaws. There are times where it is awkward to flip it around so the jaws grip the side you cut rather than the side towards the plant.

This is one of the most useful tools I have ordered online. It works really well, actually better than I expected. It is sturdy and will cut through 1/2 inch twigs but it takes a strong grip. Smaller than that is generally pretty easy. I am very happy with it and would buy it again if needed.

This 5 foot cut-and-hold pruner is very light weight and perfect for cutting small branches and fruit and keeps them from falling to the ground (or into your neighbor's yard). It gives you complete control. However, I subtracted one star because without modification the tool as delivered is not very useful for cutting upward facing branches -- like the new growth shoots on the top of a fast growing bush, hedge, or small tree that must be constantly trimmed. The reason for this limitation is that the handle rotation is limited to 180 degrees around a screw that is optimally placed for cutting fruit or downward-facing branches. To get the plastic holder to be on top of the cutter for upward-facing growth, you have to twist your wrist into an awkward side position that is very tiring. Fortunately, if you are handy with a drill (or have access to someone who is), it is easy to fix this limitation by drilling a new 1/8" screw hole on opposite side and moving the screw. I did this, and now I absolutely love the tool and use it constantly. Here are the instructions: 1. Lock the handle into the closed position. Remove the current screw. The handle can now be rotated completely around (it has a swivel inside). 2. With a pencil, mark the center directly opposite the current hole for primarily upward-facting trimming. (Note, if you need the ability to freely switch between upward and downward-facing trimming, consider putting the new hole just 90 degrees to one or the other side depending on whether you are right or left handed.) 3. With a steel nail and small hammer, tap a small dent where you want to drill the hole. The handle is aluminum which is a fairly soft metals so it should only take a moderate tap. It will also be easy to drill. 4. Starting with a small (e.g. 1/16") steel drill bit, drill a small hole through the wall of the pole 5. Repeat using progressively larger drill bits, i.e. 5/64, 3/32, 7/64, and finally (on my unit) 1/8". - IMPORTANT: Before drilling each next larger-sized hole, first test the screw that came with your unit in the hole you already have. The front part of the screw without threads should just slide into the hole and stop when the threaded part hits the hole. If you don't understand how self-tapping screws, get help from someone who does. 6. Screw the Phillips self-tapping screw into the new hole as it had been in the original hole. Hopefully the company will read this review and start pre-drilling extra holes so consumers don't have to. When they do this will become a 5-star tool. In the meantime, I hope these instructions were helpful.

I bought a shorter version of this pruner a year ago so that I could reach into plant beds without stepping into them, and was very pleased with the quality and usefulness of that pruner. I bought this longer pruner to give me an extra long reach for the same purpose, and am also very pleased with this pruner. It has the same solid build quality as the shorter pruner, and a cutting blade that clips stems cleanly and precisely. Also, the jaws on one side of the shears do a reliable job of holding the stem so that it doesn't clutter the ground in the plant bed. I have noted some other reviewers for these pruners who complain about the limits of stem thickness that these pruners will reliably clip. I have found that they clip (and hold onto) soft stems up to at least one-quarter inch very well. Hard woody stems below one-quarter inch are also clipped well, but beginning at one-quarter inch you will need something with thicker blades with a handle closer to those blades.

Very good mechanical tool good for the price and very lightweight

Purchased to trim crepe Myrtle. The limbs were not that thick. I could barely get the few branches cut, had to bend them and break them basically. The length was good. The squeeze handle was very strong. I actually returned it.

UPDATED: changed my 5-star review to a 1-star review because it is so infuriating that this awesome product that could have lasted a lifetime is now rendered a useless pile of junk because they chose to make a critical part of handle out of plastic. (see photo) The pole is already made of aluminum and the blade and cutting mechanism out of steel. Why can't they make the handle (or at least the critical parts of it) out of metal too? This critical piece of plastic snapped off one month after my return window closed. INFURIATING. I HATE PLASTIC tools! ------------------- Original review: Should have bought this many months ago. I would have avoided so much pain and suffering. This thing is ideal for cutting some difficult plants with thorns and spines, because you do not even get close to the plant AND you do not have try to pick up or catch the dangerous thorny, spiny clippings. This works very good on Dwarf Date Palm fronds and Bougainvillea thorns. Works well reaching up and down. I initially avoiding buying this because it was not some well-known brand, which was a huge mistake. This thing is the real deal...genius! Thank you for making it, I will definitely injure myself a lot less now.

Easy to use and works great

there's no way these can cut 1/2 inch as claimed and I was cutting hibiscus which is not all that hard. however I'm sure they will come in handy for trimming those pesky little branches (maybe 1/8 inch, 1/4 max). and the price was very good. they would be useful for harvesting lemons for instance if you have some you cant reach, safer to use a long lopper than a ladder

For picking beans it holds them so you can bring them close I don’t often write reviews but this little gadget is brilliant especially if you have movement difficulties like I do
