Amazing book! Such a great range of passive house designs and details! For anyone wanting to learn more about passive house design, this is the book for you!

Very interresting

Comprehensive and informative

Unusual for a passive house / passivhaus book in that it is American and contains American examples only and American terms. The only concession to a worldwide audience is the translation of feet and inches into metric units. Not that it doesn't contain some useful information and we can sort of figure out what furring, CCSPF, POLYISO, SPF etc are - but that and the somewhat abbreviated drawings (see example image) makes it much less useful than it might be. It's only fair to bring to our notice that it's American and therefore less useful e.g. for European terms, products and standard sizes.

The book content looks good however it was delivered badly damaged as you can see in the photos. Unfortunately it is needed for a research project this week and therefore returning is not an option. Disappointed with Amazon as it is an expensive book and a real waste of resources not to look after it in transit.

Being an architect but new to passive house, I enjoyed the book. Good details and case studies. I recommend it.

Not even 1 concrete house

This is a beautifully illustrated book -- the pictures and the text go together in an elegant and evocative formalism that is extremely helpful and illuminating. I found particularly useful the photos of the construction process -- this is rarely shown in the architectural press and is very important for that reason. This is not just a collection of photos of beautiful buildings - it is much more. The chapters go from foundation to floor to wall to roof to windows and special openings. The 14 case studies demonstrate the construction process. The graphics are very clear - with large scale details. An ideal reference book both for the professional and the student in high performance design.

If you buy one book to help understand the detailing methods used to achieve the passive house standard, this is the one. The details shown are clear, easy to read and large enough to fully understand. They are completely relevant to the North American building sector, which is refreshing in the world of passive house "how to" books. As a practicing licensed Architect, Mechanical Engineer, Adjunct instructor and passive house consultant, I can say that this is hands down the best passive house detailing book that I have seen. I can't wait for the 2nd addition. If you like the detailing books from 475 High Performance Supply, you'll really enjoy this book as well.
