I really have enjoyed using my these oil pastels on this paper. We have used them to make handmade cards for birthdays and holidays. They are a great size for it. The paper feels like good quality. It's durable and not easy to tear or bend, like you have to actually mean to tear it or bend it. I've used this paper with kiddos learning to use oil pastels and again, it's pretty durable I think. It's has some thickness. I'd by it again. I've also used gel pens on this paper and I like it! You could probably experiment with watercolors and acrylics as well to test it's versatility.

I am just getting into pastels and oil pastels, and wanted a pad that was smaller and the size was not too intimidating for a beginner. I have previously purchased a couple of 9” x 12” pastel pads, but they are so large that I didn’t even know where to begin. This is just the perfect size and price so I can go ahead and start creating without worrying about spoiling expensive paper or having to fill a large area with my scribbles as I learn. . This is not a Pad. It has a cardboard base and the top, but these are loose sheets. They are 6” x 6” I did measure. The color of the paper is ivory or a creamy white color. In one of the photos it looks a little too yellow, but it is truly an off-white color. The texture of the paper is not as textured as watercolor paper and it is a little thinner however, it does grab onto oil pastels well. It also brings out the vibrancy of the colors as it is a muted off white. I just got this paper today and I did not have my oil pastels with me so I just picked up soft pastels that I had just purchased from a craft store. This is their house brand and not expensive at all. I have never before painted with soft pastels, but I had watched a couple of Instagram videos. I just created some art from my imagination because I didn’t have anything for reference. I had seen the artist artists in the videos using their finger to blend the soft pastels and that’s what I did. The paper is slightly textured, but it is not rough on my fingers and deep soft pastels blended really nicely on the paper. Usually a slightly more duty paper is used for soft pastels as they are dusty, and the color needs to hang onto something. However, this paperwork fine for now. It will be much better for oil pastels. I think it is a great value for this price because I get 50 sheets that are pre-cut so they are easy to use. Pastels can be messy and oil pastels are messy as well, so it is sometimes nice to have a sheet rather than work on a pad. I can also apply washi tape to them to tape down the sides and make something that has a side margin. Typically, that looks a little better. Overall, I recommend this pastel paper. This size is not available in craft stores as I checked the two major craft stores. The closest you get is a mixed media paper, which is not quite the same thing.

If you have read the other reviews you know that this is not a pad-it’s individual pieces of paper. And they are small, 5 x 4 I believe? This didn’t bother me at all because I enjoy taping a piece down and giving myself 20 minutes to do a little painting. Because everybody has 20 minutes, right?😉. I find the size convenient and non-threatening 🙃The thing I found not as described was the texture. People found it great for soft pastel or oil pastel. For me the surface was way too smooth for that. I mean, it was a tiny bit velvety, but I don’t think soft pastels would hold at all, there is practically no tooth. Although I must admit I did not try soft pastels. I bought this paper for oil pastel. For me, I found that I had to first prime the surface with acrylic, or diluted pastel ground. Otherwise the image was just too smudgy and blah if that makes sense. The paper seems to take diluted acrylic pretty well, although it does make the paper curl as it dries. For the image I added, I painted in the blue background with acrylic, and left negative space open for the actual flower and the table top. You can see that the oil pastel over the acrylic made pretty good marks, whereas the table top is pretty smushy, and I couldn’t get a lot of clear definition on the flower. It is also true that if you are not very very careful, taping down with painters tape will tear, or shred the paper when you lift it off. I just take some of the tackiness off of my painters tape and reuse it and it’s fine. I got this on sale and for my needs it’s great for every day little practices. I feel more free to experiment because the paper was inexpensive. I wouldn’t want to try to do a great work of art on it. But then again, I’m just a beginner. Someone who is a great artist could make a great work of art on a piece of paper towel with a crayon😂

Yes, I am very pleased with the size of these pads, the texture is almost cloth like, I'm also pleased with this. The color is a good background to start with, I'm looking forward to see how well it does in the long run. On the first order I received, the pad was damaged on the upper right corner but the company immediately sent me a replacement pad and it is a very nice thickness and using a 2.0hb graphite pencil with colored pencils it was smooth with very little smudging and that's a big plus to me! I recommend the purchase if small but done well is what you're looking for. I've uploaded a pic of a beginning drawing to give an idea of how easily to use it is. The texture gives way for the ability to draw with a depth of perception, I'm in hopes of, with confidence that the drawings will last on these papers.

When the description said pad, I expected the sheets to be connected rather than 50 separate pages. Paper quality is like construction paper. Just ok

Small but amazing paper. I was able to use for pastels and likely it would work good for watercolor or pencil drawings.

I would say this is good paper if you're not looking to do anything too serious and just practising! I initially thought the paper looked a bit thin, and wondered if I would tear it after a few layers but it actually held up really well and is really smooth to work on! I also love that it comes in single sheets, and the size is great for small sketches. Noting that I've only used smooth oil pastels not sure if it would perform differently for other types!
