3DConnexion 3DX-700059 Spacemouse Compact 3D Mouse

I purchased this at the recommendation of a book author while learning CAD, and now I cannot imagine CAD design without it. Whenever I don't have my SpaceMouse with me, I feel like I'm designing without the use of one of my hands. The design is near perfect, and the functionality learning curve is steep but quick: the movement feels natural in quick order. There is a heft to it, with the weight keeping it firmly planted on the desk - this also adds to the already high quality feel of the construction of the device. The default sensitivity will be quickly outgrown by many, but it's fully adjustable. This is truly one of my favorite tools for CAD and 3D printing. I have also been pleasantly surprised by the software; it's super configurable and allows a lot of flexibility, allowing different settings on an app by app basis. One can even configure this tool for non-traditional apps like browsers and such!

In general, I will say that after using this product for a few weeks and getting used to this type of device, it was impossible to go back. If you do 3D modelling or CAD or any other work involving manipulating objects in 3D space, this will streamline your workflow significantly. More specifically for this model, this is my second 3DConnexion product, I originally purchased the PRO version over two years ago. My concern was that this version would be too small to be stable, and that the buttons on the pro version would be useful. After two years, the pro version started to drift, and had some other issues, so I purchased this model as a replacement. Compared to the pro version, the compact version seems to be more responsive out of the box, and has a rubberized bottom providing excellent stability, even with sudden quick movements. And personally at least, I found I didn't use the plethora of buttons on the PRO version.

The SpaceMouse Compact works great for 3D design and CAD work. Navigation feels smooth and natural, and it makes rotating and zooming models much easier than using a regular mouse alone. Compact size but very comfortable to use.

Does what it says and more. It really does make navigating and visualizing your 3D better. The most surprising thing to me was the fact that I can run Fusion 360, Blender, Autodesk Alias, Inventor, Maya, 3DS Max.... without having to reset my brain to their navigation shortcuts. For instance, in Blender you have to hit shift+MMB to pan, in Alias you have to hit shift+alt+MMB to pan, in Fusion 360 it's just MMB to pan (with the Alias setup)... This product unifies all these programs making it much easier to transition between them on a minute by minute basis. I'm able to navigate to views I never could using the programs interface, things like flying through the barrel of a gun in Fusion 360 (See the attached video, this is after one hour of practice). High quality materials and perfect precision. This is not some knock off type of thing, it is a well executed original idea that could have uses in wider computer industries such as gaming, VR, robotics, handicap accessibility.... With the proper drivers of course.

-"What should I expect to get out of this product?": Your mileage on this product will vary massively depending on the software you use, and its usefulness decreases exponentially as you attempt to use it for more esoteric and obscure programs. I use 3ds Max, Fusion 360, Unity, and Cura on a daily basis. The experience with Max is smooth and precise, Fusion 360 is a bit more jittery but still preferable to using a mouse, and the other two lack out-of-the-box configurations. Basically, the further you stray from the "industry standard 3D modeling software" for which the device is intended, the less likely it is to function satisfactorily. This is not a Razer Tartarus; it has a very specific function which its designers assume you already understand, and its configuration software is resistant to anything but surface-level tinkering. -"This seems expensive, is it worth the buy? Should I try out this cheaper model before upgrading to a more expensive version with more features?": This is quite expensive for what it is, and you should only consider buying it if you expect to be using it almost every day (or if you can get it from your employer as a work expense). If at this point you are confident it will improve your workflow, get the more expensive model with more buttons on it. The buttons on this one are functional, however anyone with a decent 3D modeling workflow will quickly realize that the keyboard hotkeys they're comfortable with already are still much more convenient than radial menus. I bought this version to test if the concept holds water, and now I find myself wishing I invested in the "pro" version. -"I am a maker. This seems like the sort of thing I could build for a fraction of the cost.": Banish this thought from your mind. What is on offer here is a fairly complex system built into a compact, comfortable, sturdy package, along with reasonably functional software. Your time is valuable, spend it making things that don't already have millions of dollars of R&D going into them.

When I first heard of a 3D mouse, I was skeptical. At first it was very strange using it. A short time went by and I got used to it. Now I can't use SolidWorks without it! I love it! I had the best one (the most expensive one), but it got damaged in my luggage (American Airlines) and would never work right again. So I thought why spend all that money on one with a bunch of buttons and a screen that I never use anyway. This little Spacemouse is perfect for me. One drawback is that it slides around on the desk easily, so I made a holder for it with a wrist pad on my 3D printer. Much better! I use CAD all day, every day. So I depend on it. Absolutely worth the small investment

I was using a mouse with a middle mouse button for a while and then I began to get a muscle knot in my mouse arm on the forearm. Hence, I decided to give the space mouse a try. Not only did it solve the muscle knot problem but it makes doing 3-D so much better! I am so grateful to this company who has made such an awesome product. I hope for lots of success for them and will be forever grateful for such an amazing product. I will say that if you’re using a Mac, you will encounter difficulty using the buttons. I was able to get around this by having my keyboard on the screen and creating macros on the keyboard expediting my workflow and ensuring I didn’t have to go back and forth from the space mouse to the keyboard constantly.

i love this product when i was in my mid 50s it took me about a week to learn to use and now i wont run a 3d program without one

I'm using this with Fusion 360 and it is awesome. Once you get used to using it (and it doesn't really take very long) you can move your CAD part into any position you like with ease, it doesn't require any thought, your hand knows exactly what to do. It is like the knob on this mouse is attached to your part and you can turn the part clockwise/counter-clockwise, tilt the part left or right, tilt the part towards you or away from you, move the part up or down, bring the part closer towards you or further away from you. I didn't find any online Tutorials on exactly how to use this device before I bought it, but it does come with some really useful interactive applications that will show you exactly how to use the 3D Mouse to manipulate (move in any direction) your design. The USB cable is not removable and the cable is approximately 6.5 feet (78 inches) in length. Because this is a stationary device, I can't see any advantage to buying the wireless device, in fact there is a disadvantage due to the battery charging. I highly recommend this Device.

Há uma curva de aprendizado para mexer no mouse, mas depois de aprender, ele é muito melhor para modelar 3D. Em versões mais moderna do driver seria bom adicionar um Hall maior de programas que poderiam utilizar esse tipo de mouse.

Couldn’t use my company credit card in first go and frozed account but for a security side of the view, that was good to be.

Such a good product. Takes drawing to a new level.
