best way to claim my life back
it was the best choice! my no phone summer turned into a no phone life. it’s an android phone with a nokia durability. it can get spotify, google maps, and venmo. i love it. battery can last from 15 hours to three days depending on app use. it’s small and lowkey ugly but i’m going to bedazzle mine. it fits in my jean pockets and it’s wide enough to be used as a weapon via brick throwing. it’s clunky and nice to have. my screen time went from 7-8 hours daily on my iphone to 2.5 daily (i kept the iphone but it is no longer serviced. doesn’t work without wifi). i love having my life back. also no more FOMO

Broke after 3 months
Really liked this phone but the display completely stopped working after 3 months for no reason. Super disappointed.

A great step away from smartphone addiction — not perfect, but absolutely worth it
In 2023, I made the decision to get rid of my smartphone. I sold my latest-model Samsung, and with the money, bought a nikon camera and this flip phone. After a lot of research, I landed on the CAT S22. It’s not a true “dumb phone,” but it’s dumb enough — just enough to break the cycle of doomscrolling and mindless app use, while still giving me the basic functionality I need. Why I chose this phone — and why I’m glad I did:I needed something that could still run a few essential apps — Google Maps, mobile banking, audiobooks, even the daycare pickup app for my nephew. The CAT S22 can download most apps (though some don’t work well on the small screen), and that balance has been perfect for me.What I love:-My brain is quieter. Truly. Moving to this simpler phone has made a noticeable difference in my mental clarity and overall peace. No more being sucked into social media. No more wasted hours scrolling.-It does what I need. I can text (I use a different keyboard with swype + voice input), call, listen to audiobooks, check maps, and run a few key apps.-Great speakers. Calls are clear, and I can play music or audiobooks and hear them just fine.-Good battery life. A full charge lasts a day or two, and I love that the battery is removable — I brought a spare on a camping trip and just swapped it out.-Strong service. I get the same level of signal and reception as my husband’s high-end smartphone.-The flip phone vibe is fun. Honestly, people think I’m some kind of secret agent when I snap it shut. That alone adds a little joy to the day.Downsides — and why I still stick with it:-Durability is iffy. I’ve gone through three of these phones. Thankfully, I bought the insurance plan, and each time the hinge broke (from dropping it), they replaced it. The flip top just isn’t as sturdy as I hoped, so this phone is not for the super clumsy (guilty).-The camera is awful. Potato quality. Don’t plan on using this for pictures. I use a separate camera for that now and I’m much happier with the results.-Small screen = limited app functionality. Some apps just won’t run or display properly — which is actually kind of the point. I didn’t want something addictive, just something functional.-No headphone jack. I use Bluetooth when needed, but it’s worth noting for anyone who still relies on wired headphones.Bottom line: If you're looking to simplify your digital life, stay off social media, and break free from the smartphone trap — without giving up all modern function — the CAT S22 is a great in-between. It’s not perfect, but it’s exactly what I needed to reset my tech habits, stay connected, and live a little more intentionally.

Phone works great!
My wife's phone broke and was looking to get something more durable. The phone works perfectly and is the right size. It looks like a basic flip phone with smartphone features. It has Google Maps and works with apple music. I popped in a 128gb micro-SD card so i can save the pictures to it. The battery life is not like a basic flip phone, but good enough for 2 days.

Fair "dumbphone" with a lot of potential, but bad battery
As I'm typing this there is a "frequently returned item" label on this listing and I can probably attest to why. Short version: this is a fine daily driver but the battery is TERRIBLE.Long version:I'm one of the Gen Zs who saw "dumbphones" trending on social media and got really into it. Before I bought this phone I was running Lineage OS on a Motorola because I wanted to de-Google my life. I was able to root and debloat my CAT as well while still being able to use Maps, Lyft, banking apps, and other essentials. I was even able to buy and use my bus pass on this phone. Some might be annoyed with the double-type issue (keyboard sometimes repeats letters) but this can be fixed by downloading Traditional T9 and adjusting the settings. The CAT comes with a dongle for your headphones but be aware if you end up needing to replace it - it's an analog adapter, not an active one.I used it daily for about a month and a half before the battery catastrophically malfunctioned; the screen started flickering one night and wouldn't hold a charge, so I tried to restart it and it wouldn't turn back on. It's important to note two things with the CAT S22: the BTE battery is the only kind of battery you can use with this model (fine, since it's removable and cheap to replace) and is a 2000 mAh (2/5 the capacity of my Motorola Power). This thing will run for *maybe* 4 hours with all my fancy apps using up the juice on it, and after the same failure occured 2 months after the first time, I had to give up on it. Important to note that since the manufacturer went bankrupt, these issues will never be fixed for the typical consumer. Maybe some genius with a tech degree will release updates. All the pros were really great - can sideload apps including F-Droid, enough space for all my music (over 400 songs), water- and drop-proof so I never had to worry about breaking it while I was out and about, and of course the joys of having a working flip phone. It just wasn't meant to be for me. This model would probably work better for an older person who doesn't use a bunch of fancy apps, but I couldn't heartily recommend it. Save up for a Unihertz or a Clicks Communicator instead if you want the experience of a more focused phone with clicky buttons.

ACTUALLY UNLOCKED AND BETTER THAN ADVERTISED
okay first point this phone is actually unlocked, CAT phones were originally tmobile exclusive phones so it has the logo flash during the launch process and has all the carrier apps but it is unlocked and will be accepted at any carrier i confirmed this deeper in my settings. second point this is running android 11 not android 11 go, so its basically an android smartphone before we went insane with flagship models inside a nostalgic phone that feels healthier to keep around. coming from an iphone XR, the screen/keyboard width + overall thickness of the phone feels like an even tradeoff, about double the thickness and maybe a cm ir so more narrow. and bc capitalism has made us conveniently forget, im going to point out that a 2 RAM phone is the same specs as the iphone 8. which worked PERFECTLY FINE before we updated our phones and let apple gaslight us into thinking we needed 8 RAM and AI hardbaked into the software. is it instantaneous loading? no, but the extra 1-3 seconds gives me a moment to think about wtf im even doing, i dont need a phone that can process faster than my own brain. its perfect for people like me that dont have social media or use a phones fancy flagship features when leaving the house. running it completely de-googled with positive results and will update if my opinion changes.

The CAT S22: Great concept, awful execution.
I love what this phone is trying to be. I don't love what it actually is.I bought this phone to try to "digital detox" and break the doomscrolling cycle, and for that, it's been great. I got a print subscription to the local newspaper, I'm reading books again, and I've broken that conditioned reflex to reach for my phone every time I've got 30 seconds of empty time. I feel lighter and better inside. That said, the reason that this is a 2-star review is that the phone itself kind of sucks. It's a real brick, every bit as heavy as a regular smartphone, and 2-3 times as thick. The Android GO operating system seems badly mated to the physical characteristics of the phone. The physical keypad is not well integrated into the OS, so there isn't that much you can even do with it, so you wind up still using the tiny touchscreen way more than you really want to.Texting with this phone is a nightmare. Remember back in the 2000's, those Verizon flip phones where you could T9 text at light speed using the physical keypad, with pre-AI era yet really smart predictive capabilities where you didn't usually have to type the entire word? Yeah, you won't be getting an experience like that here. The CAT S22 doesn't have a built-in T9 capability. To T9 or ABC text, you will need to download an app. Which is fine in itself; however, the only T9 apps available, such as Traditional T9 (TT9) and Tyni T9, are pretty dumb and don't have good predictive capabilities -- you're going to end up typing out every single letter in every single word, and you have to spell everything PERFECTLY or the dictionary will get lost. To make matters worse, the physical keyboard on the S22 is super glitchy. About 1 in 3 keystrokes, the phone will think I pressed the key several times. I.E. I'll press "3" and I'll get anywhere from 2-4 "3"s (or corresponding letter) in a row. This happens with all the number keys, so it's not just like my phone has one bad key or something. When you combine the unforgiving nature of the available T9 apps with the glitchy keypad, texting becomes just awful. The other options are to use the default Android keyboard, which actually works OK despite being tiny on that little screen, except that it takes up 2/3 of the screen so you can't see what you are writing. Or to use speech-to-text, which I personally don't prefer although on this phone it might be one of the better options.Oh, and did I mention that you get a beep every time you press the numeric keypad, or a vibration if the sound is turned down? And there's no way to disable it, unless you hack into the phone using USB debug with an ADB app. (And even then I only managed to get rid of the vibrate, not the beep -- the code lines I could find that were supposed to disable the beep didn't work.)As far as using other smartphone apps, for the most part you can, but your mileage may vary. I was wanting to use Amazon music for my car rides, and it kind of worked for the first week, then all the songs went gray, and despite multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, it still doesn't work. The camera is functional but not amazing, but you won't be texting any photos you take, because the texting app only allows SMS, with a max file size (~1 MB) that is smaller than the size of photos taken. (Might be able to get around this in camera settings by reducing resolution, but I haven't dug into that.) Sound quality is weak, and the ringer is so quiet you'll miss half the texts that come in (angering your spouse). So, can this phone help you digital detox? Yes. Would I recommend it? No. You're just going to be frustrated all the time, pulling your hair out trying to do basic tasks. Everything about the OS integration on this phone is glitchy and badly executed. It's a shame, because this phone is ALMOST exactly what I was looking for, if the physical design would have just been a little lighter, and the OS integration would have just been better. So close and yet so far.

it is a pretty solid dumbphone - smartphone hybrid
I got this phone as a way to step back from my iPhone 12 and break free from the global smartphone addiction. I wanted to switch to either the Light Phone 2 or the Minimal Phone, but they were both on pre-order, so I found this awesome deal for under $70.I’m not really a fan of the built-in T-Mobile apps since I use Mint, and I wasn’t too keen on the Google apps either, at first.Coming from an iPhone, everything else feels pretty foreign to me. The number of messenger apps on the Play Store is just nuts—there are so many that look alike! I don’t get how people find that better unless you’re really into tech; it just feels like a drain on your time and energy to figure it all out.Once I got into the phone, I turned off all the non-essential apps like maps and Chrome. I downloaded Google Messenger and Google Contacts, which was cool because I can tweak my contacts and organize them from either my phone or computer. Now I’m rocking this old-school rugged flip phone from around 2001. I can go all weekend without charging it, and folks over 40 always seem super curious about it. Their top question? “Do you have to use T-9 or re-learn it? I couldn’t handle that!” But nah, it's still a touchscreen with Android, and the text-to-speech feature is pretty handy. If you want to use it like a smartphone, Google Assistant’s there too, but it doesn’t make it so easy that you end up mindlessly scrolling at dinner or while watching TV.I’m still planning on getting a Minimal Phone for that Blackberry vibe with an e-ink screen, but this phone is perfect for anyone wanting a tough device to use while stepping away from the madness of Silicon Valley.

Good quality phone
The phone is of good quality quality. Perfect for people who want to detox from the modern phones but still want to have the ability to install any app. (Be mindful some sim cards don't work on it)

This phone works with Irish SIM card
Not sure why people are saying this phone only works in US? Was worried by a few reviews saying their UK/Australian/etc. network wasn’t compatible with this phone, but took the risk anyway. Received in a couple weeks and was able to put Irish SIM card (3) in no bother! Phone works perfect. Great buy

An Honest Review
Great phone second only to the alt mive style folder 2. Does almost everything I need the only thing it's missing is NFC and long battery life but all you have to do is carry your cards and bring a portable charger. Recommend looking up guides for customisation to make this thing your treasure.
