Is the threaded rod 6 inches long from the very end to end?

Actually there are different versions of this..item number 03-5091 is 1 inch under diameter for support ring and rod is 6 inches long with total thread length of ca 4.5 inches so it can be cut down on both sides quite a bit..called Lasco to confirm..caveat Lasco.net is the right website

When I purchased mine they had various sizes, I had to cut mine and re-thread the end, Any machine shop will do it. But whatever size you choose, it's from end to end.

what size rod is this OD? 3/8? or ?

For an average shower curtain span, how many of these would you recommend; 1 or 2?????

It truly depends on what you will be using for a rod. For an average 5'-6' span with a rod that meets the O.D. a single unit should be sufficient. Note that the O.D. on the support ring is not very large in diameter and will not support a conventional curtain rod.
